Yes, I know I'm being rediculous, but this line of thinking is fun.
Let the Iranian people vote on whether or not they want us to come invade them. If they vote yes, we'll come on over. If they vote no, we'll stay away. I think this is a reasonable compromise for all sides involved.
For the record, I think Iran would vote yes, in other words, for the invasion. I am not a right-winger who believes that about all dictatorships, or even most. I don't think we would get a yes vote in Cuba, Lybia, Syria, Egypt or many other countries. Not even in China (which would obviously be inpossible due to their nukes). Just in a few select places: Iran, Zimbabwe, Turkmenstan.
Iraq would have gotten yes votes from the Kurds, no from the Sunni Arabs (along with the other groups in central Iraq--Assyrians, Caldeans, etc.) The Shiite south would have been closer, but probably would have voted for invasion. I still opposed the war--there's no real country there, which means no easy way of getting out. Saddam was the only thing holding that place together.
How about the Kurds in Turkey? Does anyone doubt how they would vote? Or the Palestinians?
Seriously, it would have made more sense to invade Iran then Iraq. We're much more popular there. And it's a real country, which means we could have gotten in and out pretty quickly. No major nation-building required.
