I am disappointed by all these Dean/Clark/Kerry bashing threads...
These three, along with the truly problematic Holy Joe, are the leading contenders in our party's competition for the WH.

We all have our favorites, and differences with each as to policy, qualificatin, personality, etc.

But the fact remains that all three of these men are fine candidates and all are much better than the stinking ape that presently occupies the (toilet) seat o' power.*

I am only an occassional poster on this board, but lately I have been repelled by the pointless charges circulating against these fine candidates.

Let's keep our focus on the ENEMY*, or, if we must criticize fellow Dems, keep our fire squarely centered on the one candidate in the race who is truly a WHORE for the BUSHWAR.

HOLY JOE.

1. Well said!
I'm getting SICK of all the flame bait/bash posts here! We have TEN FINE CANDIDATES, and I will support whichever one gains the nomination---period!

:grr:

2. Exactly!! We need to discuss shortcomings of this maladministration
not candidates (so much anyway). We have to send dumbya back to TX, period. Or we won't have an America we want to live in 6 years from now.

Except for that Lieberman bastard. (Just kidding! Maybe.)

4. It isn't "pointless" to be worried that a supporter of the MIC could be
the nominee. And Clark is not a "fellow Dem," he is a pseudo-Dem that is just as close to Republicans as he is to Democrats. He "likes" the PNAC guys. He admires and respects them.

Plus, all his supporters here are brownshirts who have tried to ram him down our throats, suppressing dissenting opinion.

5. Give Clark a chance....
And remember that it was the Republican general IKE who coined that term and warned us about this monster in the first place.

These military types know the beast from "inside," which COULD be a useful thing, if applied to GOOD, not EVIL.

Let's ratchet down the terms of the debate and just LISTEN for a few minutes to what each of thm have to say.

I don't agree completely with ANY of them....I am much further to the left, I would say...but let's at least give the process a chance, right?

Edited on Wed Sep-24-03 09:51 AM by returnable
I'm a Clark supporter, and I haven't worn a brown shirt since elementary school :)

In all honesty, I'm kinda getting tired of having to defend my "liberal/Democrat" street cred to Clark bashers.

It's as sad as when repugs were questioning my patriotism when I voiced opposition to the war.

Just because you dislike my candidate doesn't mean I'm a jackbooted thug.

10. Brownshirts???
WTF??? His people have vigorously put him forward, yes, but they are no more guilty of 'ramming him down our throats' than anyone else has been for THEIR candidate.

Damn, dude! Take a chill pill!

6. It's not only you that is "disappointed"....this is a wide spread
feeling @ DU, reaching all the way to the top.

Thank you for bringing it up, once again. The more People who speak out against "the pointless charges circulating against these fine candidates". The more likely it will stop!

8. I can only hope....
Can we not understand that any political party is a COALITION of individuals and interests that combines for a common purpose.

We don't have to agree on everything--or everyone--but just because we diagree on some fine points, or major ones, we shoudl remember that we have a common enemy in the *--and this guy is a REAL FUCKING BASTARD!!!!

7. We need less "bashing" and more intelligent critique
Edited on Wed Sep-24-03 09:50 AM by NewYorkerfromMass
I think it's a matter of maturity level, and I admit that sometimes I myself am guilty of
"piling on" to the most childish kind of criticisms. (But then only because it can be fun!)
I do try and balance the genuine, intelligent, comments with the less so, more off the cuff ones. But in the end, we only need to remember to keep the dialogue civil and intelligent.

Except when things get down right silly and/or stupid. But even those threads are entertaining.

I like the fact that people are showing emotion. They are "fired up"!! That's good. I only hope that these same people can keep their drive going after the Primaries. Someone will win and someone will lose. We'll see how "fired up" people really are about winning this election after their "favorite" gets canned.

The only thing certain is that whoever gets the Dem nod will be considered..."a republican-lite, DLC, PNAC, Skull & Bones, Bush enabler" by a few DU members. (On Edit....just like post #4 on this thread)

12. A-freaking-MEN!
The pukes are having a field day watching us fight among ourselves. Our party needs to regain its voice. I haven't a clue who will resonate loudest and strongest a year from now, but hopefully the platform he or she runs on will be shored up. THAT is our major weakness and the prey those Bush fucks will use to silence us again.

We don't have billionaire financiers behind the scenes doing all they can to remove them from power, as they have their Scaifes, et al. Our strength has always been from the bottom up. North Carolina and other states affected by the closings of textile mills and other NAFTA related regs are ripe with opportunity for us. I've heard their disgust. Now's the time to sway their otherwise Repuke opinion to canidated who care about the people in their OWN country.

13. I couldn't agree more!
It is precisely this type of internecine bullshit, instigated by a cadre of ideological purists, which gave Fat Tony Scalia and four of his buddies the opportunity to get their hands on our electoral process.

17. I have to point something out.
This is certainly a very well-intentioned thread, telling people to stop attacking the Democratic candidates. But then this thread basically endorses attacking one of the candidates.

This is why we'll never see an end to the negative attacks against candidates...

Because people think it's okay to attack the candidates that they don't like!

So which one is it? Do people want me to crack down on "candidate bashing"? Or do you just want me to crack down on candidate bashing when it's against the candidate(s) you support?

(Please note that I am not picking on the person who started this thread. I am just trying to point out how this issue is not nearly as clear-cut as many people seem to think.)

20. We all need...
...to get thicker-skinned, ESPECIALLY some of my fellow Dean-ites! If there's one thing I can stand, it's self-pitying whining when you start getting as good as you give!

May we all start acting like adults now, and focus on the real enemy--- the crypto-fascist bastards who stole our right to self-governance in 2000? :)

22. I was worried about that myself....
I am guilty of trying to have my cake and eat it too.

I AM worried about Joe, but mainly because I think he is attacking the other candidates too much as peacnicks or commies that oppose "free trade" etc.

I guess I see Joe as diferent from the rest of the pack in that way--he seems to serve RW-Repub interests in a manner similar to the bashing threads--by providijg ammunition for our opponents--"Dean Depression," etc.

That is my thinking anyway--not clear enough on the post, I guess.

Thanks.

I am a Dean supporter, but I keep reminding myself whenever i get pissed at one of the other candidates: they are the competition. Bush is the enemy. Keep your eye on the ball.

Help make this a September to Remember
