Hello DU!

I need your concerted help in this and coming weeks. A Federal Judge ruled roughly three weeks ago that the Pentagon must release redacted versions of roughly 100 photos and several videos this Thursday, June 30th.

These materials are being made available as the result of a successful legal action by the American Civil Liberties Union.

This is A MAJOR VICTORY FOR THE ANTI-WAR MOVEMENT!!!

Most of the American public and many Duers remain unaware of the scheduled release of these materials. However KKKarl Rove and these fact finding politicians touring GITMO are all WELL AWARE. They and the corporate media will try to down play the materials. The spin docs will try to excuse and dismiss it.

WE ARE NOT GOING TO LET THEM!

WE MUST BE PREPARED! We must be ready in advance to frame the debate. The other side is HARD AT WORK! I want them reacting to us! Not the other way around!!!

I too and doing "HARD WORK". I have produced a number of themed items so far and will continue applying the pressure hard as the photos are released and the public reaction plays out. We may well See getting ready to see the final nail in the coffin for public support of the war. We are about to see demand to close and clean these facilities.

To that end, I have spent some time working on a new campaign that I call:

NO MORE EXCUSES! END THE ABUSES!

I believe that it effectively highlights ABUSE while attempting to neutralize the Repug spin machine's excuses and bullshit. It is short and rhymes, which makes it an excellent poster, t-shirt, chant for rallies. I hope it will stick with people!

I produced two poster designs (more will follow), One color and one black and white:





And a bumper sticker design:



That is where you come in.

I need several concrete actions from you in an attempt to establish this message.

1) I encourage, beg and plead with you to spread these images around in any way you can think of.

They can be grabbed from this thread in Jpg format and I produced print Adobe Acrobat (pdf) ready versions of both the color and B&W designs:

These are 11 X 17 inch versions. So If you can print that size, you can do that. If you only have 8.5 X 11, these should scale right down on printing. Just click the link, hit the acrobat print command, type the number and print.

VERY EASY!

2) They would be great as rally posters. With the pdf you can print your own of either size. Print at home, take them to your local copy shop on disk, or you can find them at my cafepress store (link below). They should be pretty clear and readable from a distance and I have been told that TV cameras LOVE red...

3) Bumper stickers get in front of eyes, Again print away or check out the store site.

4) A lot of these showing up at your elected representatives and media outlets could well generate some recognition of the message. Greeting and post cards at the store.

5) One last thing, PLEASE post me any other ideas you have for spreading this Meme/message/debate framing language.

I think we need to start playing the word games like them....touch on patriotism and what it means to be American. Plus with all this administrations play on and emphasis on "Christian values", well point out what they are doing and that real Christians wouldn't support something like that....

Can you put something like those words super imposed over the image you have there? That is something I'd love to hand out and put all over....

With all the divisiveness of this administration, I just think that people who identify themselves as Americans and Christians need to ask themselves if this is a "Value" they want identified with themselves. And taking it a step further, that people start tieing it back to this administration. I saw a car the other day that had a couple of bumper sticker that said "Proud American Christian" and then a second one that said "I stand by our President George W. Bush"....I would love to have had a little flyer or index card with the image of torture and that slogan "Torture is not an American or Christian Value" on it as well as something that said "You stand by President George W. Bush - stand by what? Mounting Debt, ballooning trade deficit, increasing unemployment, 1700+ dead soldiers and 10,000+ injured soldiers in a $300 Billion Quagmire based on Lies, sky-rocketing fuel costs, declining economy, torture committed by the US, Millions without health insurance etc. Or is it the tax cuts that makes you stand behind George W. Bush? (this person had a BMW 7 Series)".

I've been brushing up on my Jesus quotes and Beatitudes. I'm Pagan, and damn proud, but I love Jesus. He's right up there with Kuan Yin in my book. And sooooo many people have been brainwashed with false beliefs...it angers me that they have been abused by political leaders, much less religious leaders.

In order to communicate effectively, you must speak the same language. What they do with the information is up to them, but if I can just make them think...what would Jesus REALLY do?

I didn't understand what people were saying right after the election about having to talk to Christians because of the whole (fake) values thing. It seemed they wanted Dems to cater to religious freaks and I saw it as a sell out to get votes.

It's the only way we will get through to people that have any moral fiber or conscious. Those we can't get through to are too far gone....

And I know what you mean about the rhetoric/talk after the election about the "values" issue. I too thought it was Dems cowering to sell out to get votes. But its precisely what we need to do if we are going to get people to wake up.

Re. DC: My family is in Chevy Chase and Potomac. And given this administration and current events, I have a feeling I'll be in DC sooner than later. I still think that just like last years "March for Women's Lives" with over a million participants, we need to have a march on Washington against the War on Iraq and all the other crap we are being heaped on by the Bush Cabal. So who knows, I may be seing you soon?

One idea I can share with the group, based on the fact that I have a GREAT computer, but NO PRINTER:
I can go to the library. All I need to do is go to DU on their computers, find this thread and print from there!
Of course, I can only print black & white... but for others like myself who have almost NO resources to work with money-wise, those who have computers but can't afford the damn unreasonably priced ink cartridges right now and such, this is an excellent workaround!
Necessity is the mother of invention; I've long utilized library comps for printing when I just can't afford ink (I do have an old printer, but it's for my older comp, which cannot be networked with my new one, all scsi connections, y'know?--and the printer won't work with OSX, either)...
Sometimes I feel a bit guilty... but that IS what libraries are for!
Anyway, just a thought for those who see such lack of resources as a reasonable stumbling block...
In theory then, just about ANYONE can print HUNDREDS of these things, and sneak 'em into all sorts of interesting places...
