They applauded right on cue
a polite smattering of applauce, no real enthusiasm. My guess is that he did this in front of soldiers because they could be ordered to clap, next time they'll used canned applause.

those old signs from live TV that lit up.

16. Okay, why do I think of the SNL episode....
....with Michael J Fox as Dan Quayle? Phil Hartmann as Tip O'Neill prompted him to clap at the right moments... ...end thought...

14. CNN said they "interrupted" the president
If I point at you and say "It's your turn to speak now" does that mean you are interrupting?

17. Very weird. Only applause line. Faked, but why just one?
Weird. His speech otherwise sounded like a camapign speech and all the applause lines bombed. That little "outburst" was fake. The applause at the end died down really quickly. There wasn't any in the begining - that was strange too. An audience full of military personnel doesn't welcome their commander in chief. That can't be a good sign for bush.

...bunch of us were watching in the newsroom, and all of us noticed that no one was clapping, and there were several angry faces in the audience.
