How do Vermont residents feel about Dean?
I'm curious as to what his hometown reputation is. Anybody from Vermont or anybody with this knowledge wish to share some insight? Do you think he could carry his home state should he be the nominated candidate? I know 3 electoral votes isn't alot but every bit helps. Plus, didn't Gore lose Vermont? I forget...

1. Gore lost New Hampshire - it's easy to confuse those two
Thank God Vermont is shaped like a 'V', or we would all be in trouble. :)

7. However, Gore+Nader would have easily won New Hampshire. (NT)

2. Gore won Vermont
Gore did win Vermont. I think Clark is the better candidate though. Clark can carry many states then Gore. Including Florida and Arkanas, his home state.
I think Vermont likes Dean, they elected him governor. But I think they would like Gen. Clark better :)

3. All I know is my friend's parent live in Vermont and
they hate Dean with a passion. Of course they are fervent right wingers who never miss Rush.

9. in other words, kind of a back-handed endorsement of Dean
if the Rushbots hate him, he must be doing something right!

5. Dean had consistently high approval ratings as governor..

In fact, if we are using the media whores' barometor of popularity by which they judge chimpy, I'd have to say that Dean was amazingly, fantasitically popular in Vermont.

Consistently 60-70% approval ratings, per google.

6. I spent the last week in Vermont...

I spent the last week in Vermont and the last couple of days were
spent wearing my brand new Dean tee-shirts.

I got good responses from lots and lots of people and nothing
negative from anyone. A little shop out on Grand Isle was willing
to take my out-of-state check based on the tee-shirt!

He seems to be pretty-well-liked among his former constituents.

8. I have a colleague with family in Vermont.
I asked her this question a few months back. They are left leaning moderates. She said they think "He's ok. No big complaints, nothing to get excited over, either."

10. His hometown rep
is pretty good. I voted for Dean 5 times. Did I always agree with him? Nope. I'm considerably more liberal than Dean. He's bright, he listens, he's willing to change his mind and he'll fight for what he believes. On the down side, he does have the tendency to stick his foot in his mouth. (He always managed to get away with it). His style can indeed be pugnacious.

Vermont and New Hampsire are very different. Vermont may well be the most liberal state in the country.

Should Dean be the nominee, Vermont will undoubtedly be in his column.

11. Vermont is split...
> Vermont may well be the most liberal state in the country.

I disagree. While the City of Burlington may rank right up there
in liberal feelings (I mean, Bernie Sander's Congressional office
shares the second floor of its building with a crystal shop and
a bong shop, for godess's sake!), once you're out in the country,
you're in territory that really belongs to the OLD TIME
Republicans. You know, the kind who thought that balancing budgets
was a good thing and that everybody deserves to be left alone.

The fact that Dean draws at least some support from both contingents
is one of the wonderful things about him.

12. The Vermonters I met at the AAUW convention
love their ex-Governor. They said that Vermonters are blunt and outspoken, and in some parts of this country that doesn't go over well, but he is straight forward with his beliefs. They said that Dean's combative style is in large part due to the nature of combative Vermont politics.

13. Alison Bechdel (Creator of "DtWOF") seems to like Dean...
Alison Bechdel, the creator of "Dykes to Watch Out For", seems
to like Dean; note the "Dean for America" tee-shirt on the bed
in the first frame of this comic...
