Were the Troops Ordered Not to Applaud?
Someone posted a blurb from Fox to the effect that the soldiers listening to Bush's speech were under orders not to applaud...something I find implausible given Bush's handlers tendency to stage manage all of his appearances.

Did anyone one else get the impression that Bush expected cheering and applause at various times during his speech and seemed discomfited when it didn't come? Particularly at the start, when he seemed to pause a couple of times after a few tag lines, waiting for a cheer, with the boys in green giving him nada.

It was kind of eerie.

2. according to Moran from ABC
the only applause was started by advanced crew from WH... the boys and girls did not, they were ordered to... so what yuo are seeing is... SPIN... I mean how come them troops are not liking the CiC? Remember the talking points... to translage further, George has run out of another safe talking zone.

3. No Applause
I think you're right about the "no applause order" being Fox "spin".
Why give an order like that and then have Bush's handlers encourage the soldiers to clap?

There were only two instances of applause in the whole speech. Once briefly when the handlers apparently initiated it and at the end when the applause was polite but hardly wild or sustained. Bush could have saved Air Force One airplane fuel by staying in his standard studie and just teleprompted from home with a white on blue "Patience, Patience, Patience" backdrop like he always does.
