2. There's probably nothing you can say to this person,
that will make him/her think differently, especially if they claim Bush is the best president ever. Just roll your eyes and keep going.

Sheesh!

3. New weapons systems developed in the 90s...who was President?
Edited on Wed Sep-24-03 04:42 PM by Richardo
Off the top of my head (see Franken):

The new generation of smart weapons did not just appear on Inauguration Day 2001. It took years of R&D to develop them, and in Gulf War I we were still using a lot of gravity bombs and the smart bombs were not as smart as they are today. Better GPS, etc.

I'm sure many other DUer vets and active military have better and more accurate info than I do...

6. Excellent, 2cannan! Throw the Cheney quote at the freepazoid:
"A commander-in-chief leads the military built by those who came before him," then-vice presidential candidate Dick Cheney said during the 2000 campaign. "There is little that he or his defense secretary can do to improve the force they have to deploy. It is all the work of previous administrations. Decisions made today shape the force of tomorrow."

7. Whose is it then?
Of course the military in Iraq is Clinton's military. So was the one in Afghanistan. He thinks we just created a whole new military in a few months? People are weird.

We didn't need France, specifically, but we did need for them to at least not oppose us. Which is what Chirac is saying now. They probably won't sign on to a new resolution, but they'll abstain if the other countries are ready to move forward. Which is also what Kerry said a couple of weeks ago. You move in a diplomatic way that allows France to move to the side, not one that makes France a combative enemy. Tell him you're really glad he's signed on to the Kerry UN diplomacy plan.
