New repug stance - It's a left-wing conspiracy
I was listening to a great WPR talk show this morning with guest, Dave Berkman, professor emeritus of media at UW Milwaukee and contributing editor of Milwaukee's independent paper, The Shepherd Express. The show was about how the media has finally awakened and is taking notice of the behavior of this misadministration.

At one point, a woman called in and talked about how she just finished reading David Brock's book and how she thinks this will just turn into a left-wing partisan attack just like happened to Clinton by the right-wing. Mr. Berkman skillfully countered what she said and then the sheeps clothing fell to the ground as she attacked all media as left-wing and liberal, then held C-span up as the greatest source of news in the entire country.

Is this the new repug stance - a vast left-wing conspiracy?

What would you say in response?

2. WPR
YaHoo!! ...anothoer Wisconsinite!!!

I think you're right on about the newest Right Wing spin...a conservative commentator on CNN, just put out the "vast lesft-wing conspiracy" line a few minutes ago.

SorrY I missed Dave Berkman, he's usually pretty good. I usually listen to WPR in the morning but (In all truth) Kathleen Dunn's voice is just too irritating to handle....

4. Wolf read an e-mail a few minutes ago
from a woman who claimed the same thing, and then took a call from a right-wing nutjob who said Dems don't want to give the chimp "the benefit of the doubt." Expect to hear more of the same.

I don't like Kathleen Dunn either. She is just to wishy-washy with her guests. Dave was on with Joy Cardin. She's a bit wishy-washy for me too but with Dave on, it went very well.

3. Repugs have always said...
that the media were all left wing. I believe they even site a study that claimed something like 90% of journalist voted for Clinton at least once and many twice. I would therefore say it is not a new strategy.

Many here say the same thing, that either the party of their pet candidate do not get fair coverage because of bias. I think the truth is more one of two things; either the media are lazy and the candidate with the best promoters get the most and the best coverage, or the media focus on the negative so only candidates or politicians who screw up get coverage.

18. What Liberal Media?
Eric Alterman: page 16-27 debunks this.

sum up:
Journalists were tired of the same faces in the White House, and as far as the selling newspapers, new faces with new stories was good for news.

The Journalists themselves politics were more closely aligned with those of Clintons, since they came from similar background and were generationally related.

The journalists who returned the surveys were mostly from avowed liberal outlets while those who wrote for conservative and more mainstream outlets almost universally did not return the survey. (Only 139 out of 323 questionaires were returned)

Finally, as the title of the chapter describes, You're only as liberal as the man who owns you.

10. By definition, it's not a conspiracy...
...because a conspiracy is secretive and clandestine, whereas what we're talking about here has been going on in very much a public and visible way. So Hillary was wrong; the seven-year $73 million witch-hunt vendetta campaign against her and her husband was vast, and it was right-wing, but it was not a conspiracy. Still, whether you call it a conspiracy or something else, Republicans can sure dish it out, but they can't take it. What hypocrites they are.

One important difference between the right wing's propaganda and smear campaign against our last ELECTED president is that THEY HAD THE MEDIA ON THEIR SIDE, and we have no such advantage now.

Another even more important difference is that WE HAVE THE TRUTH ON OUR SIDE, and they DID NOT. So THEY HAD TO LIE, DISTORT, SPIN, and just plain MAKE THINGS UP, while all we have to do is GET THE TRUTH OUT THERE.

Republicans are thoroughly nasty people, I tell you.

Ron

12. A conspiracy is not only secretive,
but typically involves doing something unlawful.

While most of Hillary’s VRWC was in the open (mainly a coordinated propaganda effort), there were secret and unlawful activities between some parties of the He-Man-Klintoon-Haters Club. So Hillary was only wrong in that it was a small RW conspiracy.

17. Repukes ALWAYS have to lie, distort, spin, etc., the issues
Just to be elected! If they told the truth to the American people, no one, save for the most die-hard conservatives, would ever vote for them!

13. Where these part of the vast left-wing conspiracy?
Did the Republicans NOT use Clinton's involvement in Whitewater for political gain?

Did the Republicans NOT use the original attack on the WTC in 1993 for political gain?

Did the Republicans NOT use Travelgate for political gain?

Did the Republicans NOT use Vince Foster's death for political gain?

Did the Republicans NOT use Monica Lewinski for political gain?

Did the Republicans NOT use Bosnia for political gain?

Did the Republicans NOT use 9/11 for political gain?

Did the Republicans NOT use Iraq for political gain?

Now, what was that about a conspiracy?

14. I hate to mention pigboy...
But that's EXACTLY his tack recently. Today he mentioned the desire of democrats to make the president look bad "no matter what the cost to the country" and intimated that he was sure that the Dems had likely had a pre-war meeting regarding masive resistance and making the pres look bad.

Ergo; If ANYONE criticizes the president , or he is made to look bad ; it's due to the vast democratic conspiracy....

And they think this will cover smirks ass!

19. Their tendency to blend the country with Bush* is sickening
president look bad "no matter what the cost to the country"
Bush* is not the country. We have to stop this in it's tracks. Criticizing Bush* is not harming the country. In fact it's the exact opposite. It is what makes our country great, that we Can criticize the pResident.

....and then the sheeps clothing fell to the ground as she attacked all media as left-wing and liberal, then held C-span up as the greatest source of news in the entire country.

Now everybody knows that's just not true! CSPAN is another "liberal commie" media outlet. You have to watch FAUX News for the truly fair and balanced coverage.

16. I was thinking this very thing when I heard Limbaugh on the radio
at lunchtime.

The whole "flap" over those "sixteen words" were a conspiracy on the part of liberals and Democrats. It almost sounded like someone snuck those words into the speech for our benefit. And that was only the beginning, because we cannot stand repugs being in power and would lie, unjustly persecute and exagerrate to achieve our political ends.

The repugs would never consider doing such a thing.
