99X Radio Station In Atlanta - DJ Tells People To Shoot Terrorists

Well, I don't have much of a problem with terrorists being brough to justice. However, I think he may be going about it all wrong. Sure, the guy is a little pissed off about what happened in London but his comments kind of bothered me considering how racist people can actually be around here and how some people consider anyone who's middle eastern to be a terrorist. I'll paraphrase some of the stuff he just said on the air.

"If you see one of these terrorists just shoot them!"
"I don't care if these people are being tortured in Guantanamo. They deserve it."
"Allah isn't real!"

Lots of other stuff like that basically bashing the entire religion instead of just the terrorists. He basically generalized about middle eastern people. Anyway, here are some ways to contact them.

Iraq is full of terrorists now. If that DJ says that he's already served then he needs to go back.

I sent an e-mail to the one called Matt but it says he's on vacation so this is a replacement. He hasn't said his name.

If we can't figure out his name we may have to send some complaints to people higher up and give them the date and time when he said it. I'll keep on listening to hear who it is.

I don't have a problem debating the ideology of the Muslim religion. I do have a problem when others use inflammatory language to incite violence.

Commercial radio sucks in general, and, really, I can't imagine one of the student DJ's on Album 88 (my station of choice for music) doing anythign remotely similar.

And that DJ has actually bashed Bush on the air continuously over the past few years. That's probably the best show on the station.

Of course, he's a guy who actually knows and cares about the music, too. Not the same as most commercial-radio DJs who are working where they are because it's the only paying gig they could get...

I tried to get him to play some Mars Volta other than Widow. He basically broke down and complained about the management. He wished he could play it but they don't even have it and they probably wouldn't allow him to bring anything in. He seemed genuinely unhappy with what he was doing. I noticed he wasn't at the station anymore when I just looked.

I sent a very polite email. Told him my son, a Marine, is on his second tour in Iraq...facing a third tour...due to the shortfalls in recruiting. So, if I can be of any help with enlistment, please let me know.
Call out the chickenhawks whenever you can. They're really annoying. My sons friends, whatever their political leanings, have been very supportive of him.
And even his more conservative friends don't making braying warmonger talk around him. Soldiers really hate to hear that from sofa cowboys as much as we do.

The radio station can, and should, lose its broadcast license over this.

I wish he'd just come on the air and clarify or give an apology. It was a vague comment he could always say he meant a real terrorist who was about to blow something up or a terrorist overseas. I just know how some people are in Georgia. That's the problem. I'm afraid that because of being irresponsible like this some crazy person might shoot some middle eastern people because they heard it on the radio.

I remember awhile ago one of the DJs commented about wanting to run bike riders off the road. That pissed off a lot of bike riders and they said the comments could put people in danger. A few months later the station started running ads about bicycle safety and how they're supposed have the same rights to the road as car drivers.

However, I made sure I seperated what I said about the terrorists from Middle Easterners in general. It was not my intention to go after a race of people, and I feel as though I did a good job in not doing that.

I mentioned Islam because that's often used as the foundation and
excusation of these attacks. I never said that every person that practices Islam was a terrorist nor did I say they were bad people for doing so. As for Allah not being real, that is my belief. I'm not atheist per se - more along the lines of agnostic - but those are my feelings towards every organized religion.

Again, I apologize for upsetting you, though I firmly stand by what I
said.

station, as the things said were my opinions and I take sole responsibility for them.
