Why, a friend of mine has a nice restaurant, very cheap, and there is a fine hotel around this corner....

They just have to observe some decorum and they'll be welcomed with open arms, I have no doubt. I'm working on DU diplomacy, hoping we can all learn to live in harmony and peace. I'm sure the Lizards will frequent the fine restaurant and catch some shut-eye at the inn.

Three guests, and my meal and bed are free....

I posted the exact same post on both the lounge and GD and got completely different responses. Many responses from the lounge were sarcastic with too much emphasis on trying to be funny. The responses from GD showed respect, were educated, mature and reasonable for the most part.

I mainly go to the lounge to be off the wall, which is fun from time to time. It's a great place to talk movies and cats. If I actually had a Cat.

Lots of us post in both GD and the Lounge. The lounge is a great place for people that aren't uptight and can have some fun. Unfortunately, politics 24/7 isn't as fun or necessary as it seems. It's OK to back away from the keyboard once in a while. But I guess you're too busy reading the "stupid shit" in the lounge.

I don't give a fuck what people do in the lounge. Sometimes its really funny. All my post meant to illustrate was the same kind of snarking that the people IN THE LOUNGE started visiting upon GD. I didn't say anything worse about the lounge, than the people who rag on the "crazies" in GD.

It's been a while since we did a poll, but there are many middle aged and older people in The Lounge. What some seem unable to grasp is the name is The Lounge. The conversation is naturally looser there.

they tend to be a wee bit behind. They get flamed.
Next thing you know there's 4 or 5 of the lounger's buds working the thread,
in some cases literally saying, "I've got your back."
Thread isn't going anywhere near the way the OP imagined it would,
ie people aren't throwing flowers, so the OP goes to the lounge and
does an "Oh, woe is me, they hate me in GD" thread,
whereby all the lounge buds gather round and stroke the OP's ego.

most of the Lounge Lizards are very politically informed. Some of them, like me, have been insulted in other forums and simply prefer The Lounge. I read regularly here, and post when the mood strikes me.

That being said, I can see how people may feel that way since there is a lot of attacking going on. I like it in GD and will stay here while visiting the lounge once or twice a month.

I just don't understand half of what's posted and am not sure what the playground rules are. There's something of an ingrained culture there that I'm not comfortable with. I can see the point of GD, The Lounge seems mostly to be a social group, which is fine, of course, but I think I'd have had to be around this site for a long time before posting there, it would feel like walking into a huge party as a complete stranger where everyone knows each other.

They only act like they know each other, that's part of the irony. Just go there to clear you head, sort of R&R from the perils of the daily travail of crap that * puts out.

PROUD Lounge Lizard. The Lounge is simply that. A place to be not so serious. I think we all need an escape from reality every once in awhile. I don't know of anyone who can continue to be serious and focused for long periods of time without having some sort of release. I speak for myself when I say that I'm quite intimidated to post here because most of the time, when I do, I get jumped on for stating my opinion. Not just disagreed with, but belittled because my opinion isn't 'good enough' for the few people that post here that think they are on a different level than the rest of us. You can disagree with me, hell, PLEASE DO, but don't make me seem like less of a person because you disagree with me. And just because we like to have fun in the Lounge doesn't mean the majority of us aren't intelligent. That's stereotypical.

GD isn't bad at all. There's a lot of debate and that means the people actually like you enough to engage. Just reframe it that way. Or better, yet, when you do feel attacked in GD, just let the emotion flow and lash out at somebody. It will be greatly appreciated.

Please, come to Election Results & Discussion. We get horrible trolls who are adept at a variety of flames, charming, didactic, horrible. At least in GD the flames come from DUers. It occurs to me that the GD-Lounge relationship is like that between same-sex big brothers/sisters who are about five years apart. When they turn 15, 16, the older sibling generally loves the younger but thinks it's normal to ignore thlem or be rude on occasion. The younger sib is crushed and thus begins the competition for success later in life.

I hope you will assure us you aren't being condescending. Some of us Lounge Lizards are teens, but many of us are veterans or walking wounded of the political wars who want to relax for a while.
