But thank you.

I've had Andy as a guest in my home twice, and met him on other occasions, and I have no pictures. Oh well...I have memories.

10. I'm so sorry to hear this
I didn't know Andy, but was following his recovery close and I thought he was on the mend, so I was shocked to hear of his passing. I haven't been on DU as much in the last week since my daughter had surgery herself, so what happened? I'm in shock. Andy gave such hope for recovery of this type of cancer. Please accept my condolences for you and his loved ones:hug:

12. Pancreatic cancer is one of the worst cancers to defeat. The survival....
...rate is very, very poor.

My Dad had the exact same surgery as Andy did, but he totally vetoed any chemo or radiation treatments. Dad went into the surgery weighing 170 pounds, and went home two weeks later at 135 pounds.

Dad's still here nine years later, and has clearly beaten the odds against surviving this form of cancer. Approximately 95% of all pancreatic cancer patients from 1996 are now dead.

13. so glad to hear
your dad is still here. Sounds like he had a rough go of it, but held strong. I just didn't realize how low the odds were with this type of cancer. It's just so sad.

28. It might be a good idea for him to contact some hospitals
Edited on Fri Jul-08-05 04:13 PM by MissWaverly
just e-mail them and say what you told me, they want everybody to
survive like your dad, he might say what his diet has been like, etc. He just have to goggle, but I know that Dr. Yeo, Andy's doctor at Hopkins is doing research on Pancreatic Cancer and he is a great guy!

20. I know....that's something he and I connected very early on....
we behaved fairly shamelessly when we battled and cooed at the same time.

heheh....my buddy, Gbnc......we could battle like War of the Gargantuans and smooch and coo at the end of some blistering replies. Lurkers must have thought we were schizophrenic, but, we really just had total faith in the sincerity of each other and our shared goals, so the battles were fun, as well as illuminating.

Man, what a blast.

in September of 2003 that are quite good. I'll mail you color copies of them next week (no scanner).

He was happy and relaxed then. Healthy as well.

17. I want to thank you and Ben
for all the love and support you've given Andy. I only knew him online but I don't dismiss that - met my husband online so I know how close people can get even without meeting face to face.

Thank you both for the updates, and for letting us know how we can help. I was honored to help pay for his operation.

Bless you both

29. How devastating
to have read this morning that DU's dear friend had passed away. My prayers and thoughts are with his family and friends. Thank you for the photo's, I'm sure he knows his work will live on and I for one will think of Andy's hard work and perseverance when I think I can no longer take it. He's our motivation. May he rest in peace.
