I want to personally thank you for the many ways in which you've already supported Velvet Revolution and, in particular, our Divestiture for Democracy campaign which is challenging America's Voting Machine Companies head-on! The support we've received from citizens, citizen groups and politicians has been incredible. Now I am writing to update you on some of our work and ask for your continued activism and financial support.
Recently Congressman John Conyers and 23 other members of the U.S. House of Representatives sent letters to the nine major American Voting Machine urging them to adopt the standards that VR has demanded. The House members told the companies that if they do not do so, Congress will do everything in its power to deny the companies all government funding which was set aside via the "Help America Vote Act" (HAVA).
We've received similar endorsements from Presidential Candidates David Cobb of the Green Party, and Ralph Nader of the Independent Party. As well, many other well-known office holders and organizations have contacted us recently to inform us that they are interested in join the Revolution shortly! So watch for further announcements at
http://velvetrevolution.us.In the meantime, we have been making the rounds of radio programs (and soon television) across America trying to get the word out about our work at VR, our " DV4D" campaign and the evils of unaccountable, and unverifiable, secretly- tabulated voting system in America. If you have not done so already, please make your voice heard with the American Voting Machine Companies (who are now in the business of running our public elections) by sending an email to the companies letting them know you support VR's efforts and the coming massive and sustained divestiture program if they choose against what is right for our country!

Furthermore, just this week, we have announced our campaign calling for James A. Baker, III -- the mastermind and architect of Bush/Cheney 2000's strategy to keep American votes from begin counted -- to immediately step down from the co-chair position that he's outrageously been granted, next to former-President Jimmy Carter, on a new "blue-ribbon commission" convened to study problems in the last election and recommend solutions for future elections. A hard partisan loyalist so closely tied to the Bush/Cheney campaign, and indeed the Bush Family itself, has no business on such a "bi-partisan" panel.
As well, VR sent letters this week to all 50 Secretaries of State asking that they not buy vote machines that do not meet our standards. Moreover, we will soon be announcing exciting new strategies for Media Reform. The role of the corporate media, and its dereliction of duty to the American people, is one of the main reasons that both American politicians and corporations have been allowed to get away with corruption at an alarming rate! We will be developing actions, campaigns, and offer the same type of top-notch coverage on the issue of Media Reform, and support for like-minded organizations, as we have become well known for in the Election Reform realm.
Clearly, all of the work we are doing on all of these fronts -- and many others behind the scenes -- costs money. At this time, VR is only funded by your generosity. We receive no government money, nor are we funded by any of the political parties or action groups.
To put it plainly, we are playing a vital role in working with nearly 100 other Election Reform and Voting Rights (and Media Reform) organizations to help see that a strong, free, fair, transparent and verifiable democracy is restored to this great country.
We need your help to continue to meet the dangerous challenges facing our democracy. The deck is fully stacked against us (and you!), but we can change that if we have the resources to continue this fight! We do a lot with a little. But we can do a lot more with the full resources we need to fully fight the battle on all of the fronts we'd like and need to!
We pledge to take on "the powers that be" head-on, unflinchingly, and in ways that call the bad guys on the carpet in such a way that they cannot avoid the truth. We will follow them down every secret corridor, we will smoke them out of their corporate cabals, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that they are accountable for their actions to the American people!
