Anybody seen this anti-abortion ad on TV?
I saw this last night, from New Mexico Right to Life: faces of kids on milk cartons, and a statement that one in three or maybe four kids is missing because of abortion. I was too preoccupied with disbelief to catch the number. It ended with a line of people standing in front of milk cartons stretching out to the horizon. Scary, effective, and well timed. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a link on the New Mexico or National Right to Life sites.

1. What was the tie with missing kids and abortion? My mental facilities
must be off today because I can't think of a link.

2. Check national.

New Mexico might just be a test area.

The link might be that there would be that many more kids to be on milk cartons if it weren't for abortion.

:sarcasm:

3. Actually it was more like they're missing because they were aborted
and I couldn't find it on national, either.

5. It's said that a third of the post-Roe generations are missing

because they were aborted. There have been about 40 million abortions since Roe.

So I agree with your later post in this thread -- the ad means one in three children are missing because they were aborted.

7. Deceptive, duplicitous and distorted-- as usual.
Makes it sound as if there were NO abortions prior to Roe v. Wade.

Estimated back-alley abortions prior to Roe: 1.2 million per year. (Estimated 5,000 women died annually as a result.)

Estimated safe, legal abortions after Roe: 1.4 million per year. (Complications of any sort occur in less than 1% of cases.)

(Source: http://www.feminist.org/courts/roe.asp)

Other factors to consider: population growth over the past 30-plus years. Has the percentage of women seeking abortion increased since Roe?

Also, legal abortion is only one part of the battle for reproductive rights. Access to rational sex education is another and has been shown (in Massachusetts, for example) to reduce the abortion rate by preventing pregnancy in the first place. 'Course, the fundies don't want none o' that sex talk, neither.

Long story short, those ads are just the usual clever lies from the radical right.
