So, let's see...if it were California instead of Japan, and the Japanese were cracking jokes publicly, you'd agree it was funny, right?

I used to rock climb and mountain climb a lot (more than now) and one of my climbing partners told me a story about how his friend, a rescue climber, had to go up a peak (don't remember which one) after an ice storm to try and rescue a bunch of Koreans who were trapped at the top.

A rescue attempt is really a pain in the ass and most rescuers have a dim view of the victims, who are usually stuck as a result of inexperience, carelessness or negligence. So they make the climb and find the Korean party frozen solid at the top.

One Korean guy was frozen in a doubled over position-- on all fours like a dog. These guys found this apparently funny and proceeded to take pictures of themselves "mounting" the frozen Korean like they were giving it to him doggy style.

I was rather appalled at this as my friend told me the story but he just shrugged and said it was a way for these guys to blow off some steam.

So this story doesn't really relate to a possible tragedy in Japan- but I have to agree with Wetzelbill that some people really do just a have a bizarre and macabre sense of humor.

And it doesn't really mean anything more than that.
