Every time I see Poodle Blair these days, he looks in a daze. That's sad since I used to really like this guy prior to 9/11.

This invasion, which he though he was a "partner", now he's as much a captive as the Iraqis. He's stuck in it for as long as Bunnypants or face being branded a Chamberlain or other "appeaser".

Damn problems about starting wars...no matter how much you think you can control them, it never quite happens that way. Blair was a fool to believe this regime and now all he can do is put out the fires they've left when they flare up.

I honestly think he just beginning to understand how badly he messed up though. How many times has George asked for a favor and Blair jumped to help. Blair asks for some reciprocation and George basically tells him to screw off.

Maybe it's been discussed and I've missed it. In the run-up to the invasion, Bunnypants made all sorts of big promises. Remember how they tried to wipe out the Turkish debt so they could invade Iraq from the north (thank goodness the Turks said no). We know the Ukranians, Bulgarians and the Poles (don't forget Poland) also got tremendous amounts of aid and other favors.

Other than the Carlyle Group connections (save that for another thread), what else did Bunnypants offer Blair that could have made him so compliant and now so enabling?

I have always thought in the back of my mind that Blair and Britain would get in on the "ground floor" to rebuild Iraq. There is alot of money to be made in the reconstruction effort. I've also privately thought that perhaps Blair had wanted to be best buddies with the biggest super power on Earth. At any rate, Blair is getting screwed. Bush refuses to help him with his fight on global warming, and Bush flat out said that Blair should expect no special treatment for his efforts. Bush also refused to give aid to Africa like Blair asked. Bush ended up giving him a fraction of what he wanted, and then put so many stipulations on the money that I doubt Africa will ever get a dime.

I agree...looking at it from 2002...Blair saw the oil angle...especially for his country as being a key here. This is the second largest proven reserve and making it "stable" (under control of the major western oil corporations) would both pay for the invasion and then make people happy as their gas and petrol prices would either stay stable or drop. I remember hearing this used as a justification (IIRC, it was Wolfowitz who was spewing that lie).

IMHO, Blair felt he was playing Churchill to Bunnypant's FDR in the run-up to this invasion...instead he ended up playing Laurel to this inept Hardy.

The War on Terror cannot ever be won using military might....not unless we kill every last one of the peeps and taht is not gonna happen...even if some advocate it..rather ignorantly I might add.

Peace is SOOO much cheaper than conflict....the prob is we don't even try much less think of it as an option. Our Bush is so in over his head its pathetic and almost criminal.
