Nuclear strike on the US within one week!"
Would it be acceptable for an American President to utter a teeny weeny, itsy bitsy 16 word falsehood like that one in a State of the Union address to the American public?
Gee, the word count of a lie sure is relevant in measuring it's significance, isn't it?
Let's have a look at a few other false statements in history, that also did not exceed 16 little words.
"The German Government wish to settle all difficult guestions with other governments by peaceful methods. (15 words from Adolph Hitler -May '33)
"Germany will tread no other path than that laid down by the Treaties." (13 words from Adolph Hitler - May '33)
"I am not crazy enough to want a war." (9 words from Adolph Hitler - May '33)
"We do not dream of attacking other nations, providing they leave us alone." (13 words from Adolph Hitler - May '33)
"The Sudentenland is the last territorial claim which I have to make in Europe." (14 words from Adolph Hitler - Sept. '38)
"The German people have no thought of invading any country." (10 words from Adolph Hilter - May '33)
"The German Government...wish to make the greatest possible contribution to the preservation of peace." (15 words from Adolph Hitler - Aug, 34)
"Germany neither intends nor wishes...to annex Austria." (8 words from Adolph Hitler - May '35)
"Warmongers think there'll be a war. I think there will be a long period of peace." (16 words from Adolph Hitler - Jan. '39)
"We have ONE wish...to make our contribution to this general pacification of the whole world." (16 words from Adolph Hitler - Jan. '39)
So quit your nitpicking, people, and cut the "president" some slack. What possible harm can 16 little words do anyway?
