Generally, when a conservative Republican starts quoting the Bible, my eyes roll back in my head in preparation for the inevitable God-thinks-your-liberal-sins-are-worse-than-our-sins verbal smiting.
But in announcing that he’s almost ready to announce his candidacy for Illinois governor in 2006, state Sen. Steve Rauschenberger of Elgin gives a fresh spin to Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount advice about taking abuse. “Too many of us have turned the other cheek,” proclaims Rauschenberger, who fires back at the “moral relativism” in his own party.

At Monday’s news conference in a Chicago hotel, Rauschenberger makes a campaign issue out of GOP National Committeeman Bob Kjellander making a campaign issue out of Rauschenberger’s decade-old drunken-driving conviction.

2. Hi-LAR-ious. These repugs just can't help themselves.
This morality crap is so self serving and so ad hoc and so unrooted in any ethical universe that of course they end up condemning each other and themselves. From Bush's drunken driving to his coke use to his avoidance of combat service to Hyde's youthful indescretion as a homebreaker at 44 and a member of the state senate to Cheney's fuck you on the senate floor to Zell Miller's walking off with tens of thousands and on and on and on.
