Does it help that Pratick Fitzgerald is a Republican?
I've noticed that during the newstalk on this case, that very little is being said about Special Prosecuter Fitzgerald himself. None of the Conservative talking heads are ready to be too critical yet of the tough stance he's taking on this case, plus the Democrats, I assume, are just happy that a Republican is finally taking a stance on real justice.
Do you think that eventually the Cons will try to paint him as a man with an agenda (Which definitely would've happened if he was Democrat)? Or are they really going to respect his results, even if they turn out grim for the administration?

1. I expect a lot of misinformation to start being
tossed around soon.

2. HELL YEAH it does!!!
He is a traditional (respectable) republican. He appears to have a supreme distaste for deception and games.

He's of the republican stock I grew up with. We may have disagreed - but we understodd where the other was coming from. There is no understanding w/ these Neo-con repugs.

6. a better word
A more descriptive and shorter term than "neoconservative" or "neocon repug" would be "cryptofascist".

3. Of course not.... I just posted the following which sums up the neocons
All the freepers do is gripe that anyone who dares insult the village idiot administration is automatically just a "librul." Thats the whole basis for their arguments against republican Wilson, republican Richard Clarke, republican Brent Scowcroft, republican Colin Powell, republican John McCain, republican Lindsay Graham, republican Paul O'Neill, republican Chuck Hagel, republican Grassley, republican Arlen Specter... My gosh, with so many "libruls" in the republican party, maybe we ARE in the wrong party.

They'll simply do the same with Fitzgerald, and the Fox news and everyone else will give them plenty of opportunity to just simply discredit him.

5. He Isn't A Republican
“Fitzgerald is careful to be apolitical in his targets and his public life alike. He registered to vote as an Independent in New York, only to discover, when he began receiving fundraising calls, that Independent was a political party. He re-registered with no affiliation, as he did later in Chicago.”

8. Even better!
What does this guy truly have that's keeping the Conservatives off his tail for so long? I'm just surprised the talking points haven't gone after him yet.

9. Chicago Republican...There Is A Difference
I've grown up with these people...they all live in the burbs...the children of middle and upper class...most from working class roots who put their affiliations with their neighborhood or ethnic groups ahead of parties and ideology.

We joke here that if you grew up in the city you are a Democrat and always will be, if you grew up in the burbs, you'll be a Repugnican. There's no difference...we all liked the same music, partied at the same places and couldn't tell one from the other...until we went into the ballot boxes.

The bottom line is these people are very honest and straight up. The law is the law...it's not a partisan thing...if someone is corrupt, they are to be caught, to be tried and brought to justice. It doesn't matter if its a Democratic ward boss or Repugnican Secratary of State...corruption is corruption and there's a strong history of very dedicated and aggressive prosecutors who have cut their teeth here...Fitzgerald is one of them.

The fact he's a Repugnican is a big asset to us...as it was in his investigation of George Ryan. I'm sure if he comes out with indictments, he'll be Public Enemy #1 in Freeperland...his GOOP membership won't do him much good then.

10. Lawrence Walsh is a Republican
They smeared the daylights out of him. When the word comes down to do the job on Fitzgerald, none of them will think twice about it, whether he's a Republican or not.
