Most Conservative/NeoCon Places to live?
Well, I have been to several places that felt like Plesantville when it was still in Black and White and no one was eating red apples but you have to spend a few days in a town before you get a feel for the number of Stepford Wife types their are. These places stick out in my mind.

Grand Junction, Colorado - I work for a company that is based in GJ and EVERYONE!!!!! is a Bush lover!!! I am based in New Mexico but ALL my co-workers in Grand Junction listen to Rush and Hannity. The kind of people who think Deep Throat should have gone to jail.

Some others in Colorado: Rifle, Delta, Rangely, Hayden, Craig etc.

Farmington, New Mexico - This is a rural Oil Town where Halliburton is one of the biggest employers. Lots of Red Necks! Some other red towns in New Mexico: Roswell, Hobbs, Clovis, Carlsbad etc.

These towns in Utah, just to name a few (Utah is so Red it puts the former Soviet Union to shame): Blanding, Manti, Monticello, Price, Vernal, Kanab etc. etc. Basically every town accept Indian Reservation towns are red in Utah.

even 20 years ago, when I used to live there.Every home had a nanny and a maid(in my son's school)-but none of the moms worked. You couldn't park a pick-up in front of your house in some subdivisions.I lived in an apartment in this exclusive neighborhood, which killed these people because their kids had to go to school with commoners and people of "different races".I moved after my lease was up because I couldn't stand those phony,self-righteous "Christians".

Uncanny! You didn't have a neighbor named Terri, did you? LOL! She moved from Plano for precisely the same reason. Indeed, she was a lesbian and lived with her girlfriend, and she said life was hell for them in Plano.

37. A few of us liberals in Plano take great pleasure in
tormenting the conservatives.

Plus, the demographics are slowly changing. The kool-aid drinkers are fleeing further and further north, and there are signs that the city of Plano will one day be a very diverse community.

26. Patriot News in Harrisburg Pa says South Central Pa
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 04:27 AM by Born Free
I remember reading an article several months ago, not sure of the details but they went by percentages of GOP vs Dems etc. Also, South Central Pa is headquarters for one of the branches of Arian Nation ( it split in two not long ago) , Harrisburg-Lancaster area has Skin Head headquarters for state and I think the general area is listed for first or second for Nazi groups - more information on "hate Groups" is available through the Southern Poverty Law Center. Pa. I think Pa is tied or in top 3 in nation for White Supremecy groups such as the Nazi, Skinheads and Arian Nation. Likewise, Lancaster county is very conservative wih various bible groups. Talk Radio is all hate all the time, but they will shout you down if you question them on it. This is the area of the state that believes the wacko senator "Santorum" is great leader.

6. More towns you don't want to be in...
These are entire towns or areas, not just suburbs...

Pensacola FL
Naples FL (more old rich GOP, but GOP anyway)
Jacksonville FL
Greenville SC
Bentonville AR
Springfield MO
Lancaster PA
Tulsa OK
Wichita KS
West Texas: Big Spring, Midland, and Amarillo stand out.
Let's throw in a college town for good luck: College Station TX

I agree with you, that there is, however, nothing quite as intellectually desolate as West Texas, Little Texas, and non-SLC Utah.

The only place I have ever heard a satanic radiostation because the christians are so annoying.

11. Provo and Utah County in general could be the most conservative...
area in the nation. In the last election almost 90% of the vote went to Bush. Most of the towns you list are in the south or east of Utah, they tend to be slightly more diverse culturally (i.e. a higher population of non-mormons). Price in particular has a strong Union tradition and still votes Dem. Not that anyone would confuse a Democrat elected in Utah with a liberal or progressive.

Don't forget we're the second library system in the country to adopt the Orwellian fingerprint scanners, because you know so many TERRAISTS are going to use public library for their TERRA needs.

Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 03:38 AM by LibInTexas
Almost the rest of the county is Blue, but these guys are monied assholes that use our streets and our infrastructure without paying taxes. (Chaney had a house here just before 2000 - oh that's right he was from Wyoming - yeah right.) Bush is going to move there when he's either impeached or makes it through all 8 years, H. Ross Perot, and a whole bunch of rich guys you've never heard of.

(Oh, and Richard Condon lived there, he wrote "Pritizi's Honor" and "The Manchurian Candidate" -only lib I knew that lived there, and he despised the place. When he wrote about it in "Emperor Of America", it was an acid parody of HP.)

<Got you beat Mr. S? Probably not, but my dad went to college in Naperville. WAY long ago. I'm sure it's changed, now freeperville.>

Well, Ellis is different that Dallas or even Tarrant counties.

There is nothing wrong with that, as a matter of fact, I feel closer to the "county" people than I do to the PARK CITIES people. Aren't they special?

I live in "Old East Dallas" which turns up in the DMN as where people just got shot. If you or I drive an old enough car into HP/UP we'll be arrested for not having a good enough car! And you know that's true.

25. West St. Louis county in Missouri
In the '04 election, Kerry actually won St. Louis county by a 56/44 margin IIRC.

West County is a different story however. They call this area the Beverly Hills of St. Louis. You'll typically see lots of large SUV's sporting W'04 stickers, and McMansions far and wide.

I've been to Naperville, IL before and I'd have to say that West St. Louis county is a carbon copy.

28. Where I live (southwest Louisiana) it isn't too bad.
It's Republican but not too overwhelmingly. But if you go just like 10 miles west you can almost feel it getting more conservative. The closer you get to Texas the more overwhelmingy Republican it gets. You go north though, to Lake Charles and it's pretty 50/50. Former Congresswoman Willy Mount (D) was mayor for 8 years there and she did wonders for that city. Ashame David Vitter narrowly defeated her in the Senate race. I'd love to see her return back to Congress in 06 though.

Actually, the whole state is Republican controlled. Roy Moore hails from Alabama, and the whole court system is pure Republican. Both the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court are 100% Republican.

I'll also add another vote for Orange County, California, and Colorado... various parts of Florida... Plano, Texas too - yes - Dallas, too (Plano is a suburb of Texas).

Home of Dick DeVos, Amway scion and 2006 Republican gubenatorial candidate and his contemptable bitch of a wife Betsy, former chairmonster of the Michian Republican Party.

Seat of the Christian Reformed Church, which is a very hard-core, right wing Christian fundamentalist church.

Everything in West Michigan is infused with Jesus-this and Jesus-that and Republicanism run amok. Many mainstream businesses in this area cow-tow to the religious extremists and are not open in Sundays.

34. I grew up in Grand Rapids & would have to agree
It's funny, though, currently, the city of Grand Rapids has a democratic mayor who used to be the pastor of one of the UCC churches in the area. When we first moved there, Grand Rapids had a moderate republican mayor, who was an african-american (Lyman Parks).

The city is getting pretty liberal/democrat, and the old money dutch are moving to Ada, Cascade, and other suburban communities. I will give this for GR-there are no really bad neighborhoods. There's two iffy ones-the area immediately west of downtown, and South Division AVE just south of downtown. Even those don't compare to a good part of the city of Detroit. GR has done the historic preservation thing very well, and has well-maintained beautiful old buildings.

The whole Gerald Ford thing makes me laugh-the GOP there act like Ford was their kind of republican, and he wasn't. He was a pro-choice moderate.

I'll never hate GR for two reasons: Yesterdog and Schuler Books.

I was born in Grand Rapids and returned for college and a few years after college. Very conservative! I wasn't allowed to mow my lawn on Sunday and the washers/dryers in my apartment complex were locked up on Sunday - some of that reformed/calvinist stuff I've never understood.

That being said, there are wonderful things about Grand Rapids and two of them are Yesterdog and Schuler Books! I couldn't agree more but I'll add the Beltline Bar to that list.

plenty of red here in nj...not where i'm from (my town is like 6-to-1 dem), but in the northwest counties (e.g. morris, warren, sussex, hunterdon). some of them are fundies, but a lot of them are just rich snots. lots of money, stepford wives, kids in prep schools. and there's plenty of red in some of the southern counties too. we're just lucky those places have less people than the blue counties.

it's probably not as bad as red areas in red states, but at least you're used to it if you live in a red state.

My grandparents lived there for years and I must say, that is one shitty little town. It concerned a punk rocker named Brian Deneke who was repeatedly run over by a high school kid driving a Cadillac and killed - his skull was crushed under the tire. The killer was a HS football player who got 10 years of probation.

It appeared to be the reddest city in America.

65. No joke. East Cobb is a democrat's nightmare.
Any place that would elect Gingrich over and over and over again. Sheesh. The only reason my parents liked living there was being able to vote against the creep. After they retired, they left faster than you can say 'Impeach Bush'.

63. Tulia, Texas
The American public, and the Texas system of justice might never have focused on the "Tulia Madness" if Bob Herbert had not relentlessly pursued the story. Learn more about Herbert, and read some of his columns here.

Christian Reformed Calvinist like Grand Rapids MI. Nothing open Sundays. Hard to find bars in some towns. No Dem has the remotest chance of winning office.

71. I'm from Clovis originally, and you are SO right.
You should see their local paper. The "religion" section outweighs most everything else.

NOW I live in, get this, Moore, Oklahoma. I think it's even righter than Clovis.
