Is there a set date he's got to work for or will it be done when it's done?

1. I think it's until or before October this year

But he might go for an extension if they are hot on the trail of something and need more time.

The GJ judges sounded like they'd be amenable to it in their last statement.

2. That's when the grand jury term is up.

And I think you're right about his chances for an extension, if necessary. I suspect that he could also get sealed indictments, which would not be revealed until later. And he could always convene another grand jury, although the current one has already heard all the background. Basically, he's got all kinds of options.
