Wow.. Nightline is "cutting edge"..Way to go, Ted...
rehashing a "heartfelt" story about a scuba-diver from Australia, who dove too deep and died...with a camera on his diving helmet..:(

more fluffo, please...and pass the kleenex..

Of course there's nothing in the news that's nightline-worthy...and goodness knows that there is no other progras on the air that routinely cover these human interest stories :eyes:

18. I thought that was WV.........
you know he and DICK are here all the damn time!! They're up to something here. I've said that from the beginning of their hostile takeover of our country. I think it has something to do with the "shadow government" somehow. I do not like it one bit. This was like his 3rd July 4th outing here but he's here frequently on little jaunts that aren't made a big deal out of in MSM.......go figure.

10. I know....
I only saw part of this story, but it is a crime to see these fluffy, sensational stories when we've got an illegal war going on and an administration that is more corrupt than an Al Capone clone convention.

What's next...kitty trapped in a well? A hard-hitting piece on cheerleading injuries?

The worst is Larry King. I must admit, I tune in almost every night, because 10 percent of his shows feature interesting political interviews. However, most of the time--it's soap-opera, fluffy, ridiculous drivel.

Last night, Larry had Jessica Hahn on. Jessica Hahn!!! He's always covering the Aruba girl story. I've also seen pet psychics and a woman who was attacked by a mountain lion. And what is Larry's obsession with royalty??? Who cares! Do we need to hear from another one of Princess Diana's "friends" who is writing a book about her? Tell me why we should care about the Prince of Monaco...why does he get an entire hour?

Our country is sliding down the mountain, media people! Turn your cameras onto the real problems and stop giving attention to fluffy gossip!

Jessica Hahn!!!

13. OH GAWD!!! Jessica.. Her lips practically touch her nose now
and she painted that lipstick half way up her cheek..I laughed when I saw her..

She reminds e of an old lady in my hometown who was about 75, and wore so much makeup, that people thought she was a clown :)..she dressed that funny too:)

14. Jessica talking about Hugh Hefner
taking her in was truly intellectually stimulating. Her saying Tammy Faye was a nice person was also moving. Barf...barf...

Now does Larry want to talk about our troops in Iraq? Noooo.

You never hear anything about Nightline anymore. Guess the diver story is the reason.

19. Nightline was born because 66 Americans were held hostage in Iran
Today, 150,000 Americans are held in Iraq, hostage to a criminal regime in Washington.

You'd think someone would deem it newsworthy.

20. Nope.. they are always afraid of "offending"
Must stick to non-controversial stuff that akes people reach for a kleenex, and go "aaaawww, how sad".. and then change the channel afterwards..in search of E-true story of this person or that..

All that's "acceptable" these days is froth & fluff.

viewership of the week. Fact of broadcasting life.

23. I'm sure the strory was compelling, and interesting
but it's not what I tune into Nightline for:)

I have no doubt that it will get recycled on TLC,DISCOVERY,Nat'l GEO, A&E,20-20,and probably a few others I left out..

24. To Each His Own I Guess,...
I enjoy genuine, non-sensational human interest stories. This was a good one. It reminded me of a NOVA episode called "B-29 Frozen In Time"s. ...one of the best hours of television ever.

25. I saw that NOVA show, too
and that's a perfect place for a story like that.. I always expect stuff like that when I watch NOVA..but NOT Nightline..

That's the plus-side of having a gazillion channels...there truly IS a place for everything..That's why is bothers me when there's so much "overlap" of stories onto EVERY channel.

It's like someone who prefers country music.. They set their pre-sets for all the good country stations, and would be very upset if, as they scanned channels, they kept hearing a bit of reggae, rap and heavy metal on "their" stations..

There is a place (or should be) for everything, and people should be able to count on getting a particular TYPE of story on a particular channel.

Nightline is only a half hour, and I don;t think it's unreasonable to expect it to honor its roots....as a news/politics venue:)

ABC has countless other venues and hours devoted to the "other stuff"..
