What if...
I'm finishing up a short story and have a procedural question. Let's assume the V.P. had been indicted and was on trial for conspiracy to kill the President. How would a new VP be selected at that point?

Anybody know?

chose who he wanted. No chain of command or anything like that for vp.

3. Like the others said
Now if, in your story, the POTUS is alive but incapacitated, there would be a constitutional crisis, as the amendment about presidential succession says that in a case like that the VP takes over--if he's under indictment but not convicted, there would be a grey area as to what to do.

the President was unharmed. Shaken up, but it helps to have a paranormal creature as a Secret Service agent when the chips are down.
