..it's because I honor and value our military....

as is our routine - we ran around doing errands/shopping on Saturday morning.

We stopped for lunch at a local restaurant. We go there enough that the servers know our orders by heart and we usually chit-chat with them.

While we were waiting for our meal - one of the servers overhears us discussing Rove and Iraq, and how this mess is more than just a leaky Rove. How, Rove's leak was damage control to prevent people from looking beyond the "WMD / uranium" Lies and maintain support for invading Iraq. The server said she agreed with our views.

Then another customer (in the booth next to us) says "don't you support our troops? how can you criticize our president in a time of war?"

me: It's that I respect and value our troops that I do criticize bush. The entire build-up to the Iraq invasion was based on lies. I respect and value each and every service person in the military enough that I don't want to see them used as fodder for car bombs in a war that shouldn't have happened.

back in 2000 - during one of the debates with Gore - bush* said he wouldn't send our troops into a conflict without a clear plan that had specific objectives and a clear exit strategy. Just read the papers - there is no clear plan, there are no objectives and there certainly isn't any exit strategy.

I recognize that there are times which necessitate the use of our military - but invading another country based on a pack of lies is not one of them. Sending our troops to war based on lies and propaganda does not show honor or support - it shows disregard for human life and dishonors us all.

This entire mess is based on lies - Saddam had nothing to do with September 11, there is NO connection between Iraq and Bin-Laden, there were no WMDs. And to date bush has changed his rational for invading Iraq more times than you change your underwear. Does any know why we are in Iraq?

bush*'s latest line of crap is "we're in iraq so we don't have to fight terrorists at home" -- London's bombings pokes a hole in that one. If terrorists can bomb in London - they can certainly do it here - and probably will.

It wasn't Saddam or his buddies that set off those bombs in London - it was people with ties and sympathies to Al-Qeada and Bin-Laden - who is still running around somewhere while bush and his buddies are making money hand over fist in Iraq.

I respect, honor and support our troops too much to blindly support bush* and parrot his lies.

There was no response - except from a few other customers who nodded, one gave me a thumbs up.

The RWers are constantly making remarks about Dems being stupid, mentally incompetent, etc. BUT, the average RWer cannot seem to separate support for the troops from support for DUH-bya policy.

This is rampamt in the RW talking points. It proves to me that the less intelligent Americans are more likely to be DUHb supporters.

Our troop support has to be explained to each one individually. It boggles my mind...

..when i've said as much to my cousin, she's come back with, "i respect your political opinions. respect mine" ... at this point we are each in our corners of the fight (very polarized) and neither one is budging or coming out to fight it out anymore. there is a big, heavy silence between us.

Good for you for shutting the guy up with facts ... in my cousin's case she has usually shut me up with her motto long before i have a chance to finish my accounting of the truth to her.

it is a surprise and a pleasure to encounter people out in public who express an antibush sentiment... i think perhaps the number of antibush people are increasing.
