So Bush is going down.
I din't think so until today.

My bet is they're now planning to run somebody else in '04.

McCain is the obvious choice; maybe that's why he's keeping his mouth relatively shut for right now--doesn't want to be seen as an opportunist jackal.

Another choice is Chuck Hagel, who IS being very down on Bush. His major advantage, of course, is that he has a lock on the Diebold vote.

2. I hope BushCo is going down!
My opinion changes daily. I was very optimistic until Tenet fell on his sword. To me, that was Rove effectively punching back. Hopefully, he's punching with his back on the ground. We'll see!

3. I get the same news that you do and I disagree
what is different as of July 14th thats signals the demise of shrub? His poll numbers were low before and they will be low again in the future. Its a long time to Nov. 2 2004.

5. It's no specific thing, just an accumulation
of things: Tenet following his supposed blametaking for SOTU (he actually didn't take much blame but it was spun that way) with the release of the October speech story. Talk shows on PBS all day have pretty much taken "Bush lied" as their stating premise. Dave Berkman (retired mass comm professor & media pundit) insisting that he sees a "sea change" in the media's coverage of Bush--no more Teflon. Chuck Hagel's attack on Shrub. Fox starting to carry critical stories. A thread somewhere on DU reporting on bad vibes at Freeperville. How many grains of sand does it take to make a sandpile? Can you tell when the non-pile becomes a pile? Today, for me, it became a pile.

And I reserve the right to be back on this board tomorrow telling Walt Starr again that he was right the first time, Shrubco is invulnerable, and he was an idiot to eat his own doubting-Thomas words the other day.

9. Interesting, encouraging analysis, Jackpine
I hope PBS is/becomes a bellwether for the media as a whole. BTW, wherw did you/see Dave Berkman?

11. Berkman was on Kathleen Dunn's 9 am show.
Dave is an interesting character. Liberal, but seeminly very determined to reject anything like a conspiracy theory. He sees the media as simply venal and excessively profit-driven rather than aout-and-out evil, which is my perspective.

Dave will be filling Ben Merens' 3-4 time slot before his own weekly 5pm hour on Friday. Topic is the new media consilidation rule.

For those who don't know, Dave BErkman is a retired prof at UW-Milwaukee & a columnist for an alternative paper in Milw. He does a weekly Friday afternoon show on Wis Public RAdio.

4. Yep, JR.
I am starting to believe he is gonna augur in. Once more, under (what is in reality...) a Poppy Bush maladministration, we have weapons, war, scandal and feathering of a select few nests. Just the same kind of utter egregious crap we saw last time a Bush grabbed the brass ring. There are certainly more than a few repukes on The Hill who remember that, and a few who remember Watergate and the wrack and ruin it visited upon the repukes, as a whole, for many years following. They must know by now that they are gonna take one in the giblets for this clown and his circus. Having said that, they surely can figure it out that by tossing the twerp overboard, they can minimalize the scope and duration of the damage.

Cold? You betcha, but this is the repukes we are talking about here, n'cest pas? Once they get distracted from hating dems and progressives, they turn to disemboweling each other.

It's something they do to entertain us, the members of the lumpen proletariat. ;-)

6. Bush’s numbers are going down faster than Jenna Bush on a Tijuana bartende
Edited on Mon Jul-14-03 04:17 PM by Devil Dog Dem
on edit, should read "bartender" not "bartende" as in:

Bush’s numbers are going down faster than Jenna Bush on a Tijuana bartender.

18. Classy?? Who the hell cares about being classy? Who has such a luxury?
Don't you realize that we are at war with the entire BFEE? I don't give a shit about being "classy."

And I don't care if the sensitivities of some weenie Dems are hurt. So don't read my posts if you are too sensitive.

14. Hagel was SCATHING on CNN
Here's some of the things he said on Inside Politics today:

There is a cloud over this administration.

There were a number of people who were involved here, such as V.P. Cheney, Condoleeza Rice, Don Rumsfield, who all played a part in the SOTU. This wasn't just a one-man show.

This is a very serious matter. Did we go to was based on faulty intelligence? Were we told the truth?

He said some other things, but I can't remember them all.

Since he's so involved with Diebold, I think we need to watch this real close.

16. We had a little pre-impeachment fais-do-do at the YAYA house
Friday. It was like the depresion of two and a half years of oppression was finally relieved. The whole family was dancing and singing all over the house, all because lttle Georgy Porgy was being roasted by the press. Even my seven year-old was ecstatic.

17. Well, If Things Continued to Deteriorate, He Might be TOLD Not to Run

by any number of people. But for better or worse, Bush is in charge and he knows it. Who cares what the whole GOP leadership thinks? Why would he take anyone else's advice? Bush is not the type to quietly withdraw for the sake of the party, much less the country. He is no Al Gore.

Like Nixon, the only thing that would cause Bush to resign is an impending impeachment proceeding with enough Republican support to make it stick. And we're a long, long way from that situation.
