Catholics who have found Natural Family Planning (NFP) works very well, who've been able to have the number of children they want and no more, through knowledge of the woman's fertile days, and avoidance of intercourse on those days.

NFP requires some training in how to properly measure body temperature and chart daily temperatures over several menstrual cycles to determine when a woman ovulates. Similar or identical methods are prescribed by infertility specialists for couples trying to conceive, though they are supposed to have intercourse often during the woman's fertile period rather than avoid it.

(Avoiding intercourse for a few days doesn't mean avoiding sexual pleasure entirely, either. I read one book by a Catholic bishop that specifically suggested couples have oral sex during those periods of abstinence from intercourse. Husbands and wives are expected to have sex throughout their marriage, not just when the wife is capable of bearing children.)

More to the point, is the man even Catholic?

I'm 54, my daughter from my first marriage is 20 and starting her 3rd year in college in the Fall.

My son by my second marriage is 7 years old, and my daughter by my second marriage is 5 years old. They will be attending the same public school in the Fall, and I will be the one dropping them off in the morning while my wife picks them up in the afternoon.

I enjoy my daily interaction with my kids very much, and wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

And no, I'm not Catholic, and no, I'm not a Republican, and no, I'm very far politically from being a rightwinger.

I can't imagine that any conservative would ever do that.

I thought the same thing- does anyone really dress little boys like that anymore - in shorts with a jacket and saddle shoes? They look like they're ready for the Easter Parade is right! I wouldn't expect jeans and flip flops- but that picture is really really odd- look at that downcast look on his wife's face. I think we're going back in time folks.
