I am not comfortable with this at all. Not enough religious diversity spells trouble IMO.

28. More Like 15%
Yet, the Jewish get plenty of representation, even though they make up a small percentage of the American public.

Gee, talk about an overrepresented minority.

And no, I'm not anti-Jewish, I am just trying to make a point about your sarcastic post. The same line could go for African-Americans and the GLBT community. Yet, they have representation in our government too.

Why shouldn't non-theists be represented if all these other minority groups have it?

9. Are they just making room on the rapture bus?
Everyone knows, Catholics cannot be a part of the rapture (according to fundies). We talk to dead people (saints) and participate in idol worship (the Virgin Mary).

Are they just making sure they have enough space available when it's rapture time?

The Virgin Mary is worshiped by some catholics. Shrines outside thier homes.....it doesn't make sense...isn't Jesus supposed to be primary?

I wasn't in the Catholic cult church long enuf to figure all this out.

** i think all religions are cults as they all employ mindcontrol

11. {{{ Swinging my St. Christopher medal in front of your eyes }}}
Please allow a recovering catholic to explain. We do not worship saints or the Virgin Mother. We have respect for them and ask that they intercede on our behalf. We ask them to help us by asking that they pray for us. Sort of like other christians who have friends and they say, "please keep me in your prayers".

I have faith, therefore I try to follow the messages of Christ and appreciate that the "religion" is not infallible given it is governed by humans and all humans are sinners (prone to make mistakes, but worthy of forgiveness).

The Golden Rule baby and that is not "he who has the gold rules". :hippie:

Not that I believe any of the crap attributed to Saints.

Saints = Biblical ACTION HEROS.

Religion = Entertainment, Mind Control

I think it sucks that xians beat up on Catholics. I think thats' really stupid. There is enuf wrong with xianity that i think an xian calling out a catholic for their "odd beliefs" smacks to me of complete hypocrisy.

Religion wouldn't exist if it wasn't forced onto us during Childhood. Spirituality might, but religions wouldn't. I don't understand why believers can't acknowledge this.

I had it since I can remember, it was the religious dogma I had trouble with.

There is a difference between faith and religion.

nobody grows up in a faith vacum....unless you are raised by aethiests or parents who do not share at all thier religion or belief system.

17. My understanding of it is
asking for intervention by Mary and the saints is like going to the personnel department to clear up a minor problem, and not bothering the CEO with it.

(disclosure: as an atheist, none of the above applies to me)

16. The first time I heard Catholics worship Mary was from a Baptist's mouth.
I was 12 years old and I looked at him and said, "You don't honestly believe that, do you?"

I was taught to revere Mary as the mother of Christ, nothing more, nothing less. Now I think it's all a big fairy tale, for lack of a better word.

BTW, if anyone thinks Catholics are more benign and tolerant in their attitudes about moral behavior than fundamentalists, think again. My parents are very scary in their religious conviction. In fact, their blind devotion to the "Church" is one of the reasons I left the church. Ironic, isn't it? Extremism wasn't pretty when Jesus walked the earth, and it just gets uglier with every passing generation.
