And so does Fareed Zakaria. I happen to agree with them both.

It stems from a radical ideology of hate. While our Iraq policy hasn't helped curb the rise of international terrorism, it isn't the primary impetus for it IMO. They have to be hunted down and brought to justice.

3. It's not JUST Iraq
It's all the interference in other people's countries that has occurred in the ME for over a century.

It's nothing to do, however, with any 'campaign of hate'. They have good practical reasons for doing what they do...not airy fairy fantasies like 'they hate us for our freedoms'.

You can't 'hunt them down'...you don't even know who they are, or where they are. And there isn't X amount of them you can eliminate.

For every one you kill, in fact, you create at least ten more.

4. what do you call making up lies to declare war on a defenseless country?
I call that an "ideology of hate"...and greed. There are plenty of provocations in addition to Iraq that can explain the violence in London.

13. No, I think that if Bush isn't LIHOP he is MIHOP, but both fit.
It wasn't a joke, animals are dangerous when cornored.

For the innocent people that would be killed I pray I am wrong.

8. Would they be trying to bomb London if the Brits werent in Iraq?
Yes.But I do believe with these bombings that they are trying to make a statement that they can do to London what the occupation is doing to Baghdad and Iraq as a whole.Well thats my guess.

10. There's really no single answer
Hate is usually driven by a combination of "reasons", and the desire of the terrorist to hate is usually foremost. Ideologically-reinforced revenge breeds these people. It drove Hitler, it drives bin Laden, and bush-league versions of "justifiable" revenge drive our own violent loons, such as Tim McVeigh and Eric Rudolph.

The "underlying causes" of terrorism work the same way. It's not just the occupation of Iraq or American coziness with the Saudis, it's the overall pattern of disrespect "we" have shown to the Muslim world since the British occupies the area almost two centuries ago.

We in America also let the Europeans off the hook far too easily for the huge amount of anti-Muslim bigotry in Europe. For years, European governments have encouraged guest workers from the Muslim bloc to work at stoop wages in Europe, and now they complain that there are too many unfashionable, icky, dark-skinned people hanging around who hate them.

The solution to it would be if we had leaders on both sides who had the guts to take bold, decisive steps to foster political/economic partnetships between the Muslim world and the West. Someone has to cultivate a new thirst, a thirst not for revenge but for friendship and partnership. Until this happens, militant Islamist fundamentalist violence will continue, and the West will see its own violent god-simple thugs gain more and more power.

11. So they really enjoy hating, do they?
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 01:35 AM by wtmusic
Doesn't that seem a bit odd to you? That they have chosen the US to hate, and not Sweden, or Portugal? Maybe they hate us for our freedoms. Or maybe they're really, really desperate--more desperate than you've been in your entire life.

Read some of OBL's original statements. Not the ones edited by American media, but the complete, original statements. The "hate" you speak of draws not from Mohammed, not from the Koran, but from Western occupation of Arab lands and the wholesale plunder of their natural resources going back all of 80 years.

"Terrorism" is nothing but war fought on their terms. The idea that they do it to scare us and get under our skin is a myth.
