I can't take it anymore.
I know this has been beaten to death, but I have to vent.

This Grand Theft Auto thing is all over the local talk shows here in STL, and the sheep are all calling in and saying how bad they are because you can kill cops in them. Cops are even calling in and citing cases of juvenile school shootings where the kids admitted they learned how to shoot guns from playing these games, even when they had never shot a real gun before.....AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

First, why is the cop shooting thing such a big deal now? GTA 3 has been out for five years now and you killed cops in that game, why the 'outrage' now, I though this was about some sex scene that you have to be fairly competent in computers, to unlock. Did I miss something?

Second, these idiots ont he radio keep saying, 'why would you want to sit down and play a game where you kill cops?'....Why is it that killing cops is so bad?...If you are going to be against that, you should logically be against other games where you kill other people, cops are just people, no? I realize its a symbolic thing, but is it not just as bad to kill any other people...which brings me to my next point...

They are not real cops!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are bundles of computer code, colors and shapes. If you cant distinguis the difference, then you are crazy and will end up doing something fucked up anyway, a video game is not going to be the deciding factor...ok idiots?

Also, these idiots that think just because some kids playing these games (they probably shouldnt be IMO, more on that later) that this is going to fuel some kind of new hatred for cops...Hello... when NWA's song 'fuck the police' came out circa 1988, were they playing GTA then? no, Super Mario Brothers was about the most violent game out then and obviously the police were pretty hated, and being killed I might add, many years before this.

This whole thing is just another typical American knee jerk response to a much deeper problem by coming up with a scapegoat and interfering with people's lives even more and not actually addressing the issue. I don't like Michael Moore, but his whole take on American violence in "Bowling for Columbine" is DEAD ON RIGHT IMO. This country is fucked up and it aint a video game thats fucking it up...Hilary.

Did Hitler play violent video games as a kid? How bout the Chrisitan crusader of who went around slaughtering heathens in the name of god during the middle ages? How about Stalin? How about BUsh and company?...its bullshit people, plain and simple. Kids hearing reports about how many Iraqis or American troops were killed today, OVER AND OVER, doesnt desensitize them to violence? If you argue that playing a game will, you have to admit that it would.

I am so sick of the media, whiny parents who cant control their kids, and the government attention whores like Hilary and Santorum who try to push their f'ing morality down our collective throats, I cant take it anymore!!!!!!

Do I believe that kids should play these games or be able to buy them? no....but shut the fuck up about it and make it Adults only then already...and stop impying that I shouldnt be able to play it either, this is Amerikka motherfuckers and it isnt your place to tell me that I shouldnt like to play games where you can kill cops. Just like it isnt my place to tell you that you shouldnt be a bible thumping dickwad, who takes every passage in the book literally.

Sorry, I had to get that out.

1. I went thru the same thing with DND
Relax take a deep breath. Go for a walk it'll blow over.
My old man actually buried one of my old monster manuals in the back yard and put holy water on it. Yet he had no problem going out in the woods and shooting bambi.
Anyhow I got thru it with dnd, they could stop harry potter, and they cant stop video games either. It's all smoke and mirror to deflect from the real issues of the day. I hope I helped in some small way.

2. As a sweet, obedient, six yr old girl, there was nothing I liked better
than playing cops and robbers with a toy gun. I'd shoot my friends; they'd shoot me back. ARGH!! We'd roll around and pretend to be dead. We'd think about what a bullet to the chest would feel like.

It's called fantasy, and it's important to the development of the imagination. I've never shot a real person; I've never even touched a real gun. My fantasy-play as a child was enough. I knew I didn't want to kill for real, or be killed.

The technology is a little fancier now. But it's the same idea.

7. i understand but sometimes we should
overlook stupidity like this, even when it's dems. Nothing is going to come from it, except some slightly right of center mothers might move over to hillary's camp.

6. Totally agree. I'm a gamer and I don't translate my gaming into the real
world. Anyone that does was sick in the head to begin with.

8. it just sound and fury, signifying nothing
You shouldn't worry so much. There's no problem in the world that when you get right down to it, when Americans roll up their sleeves, can't completely ignore.

9. Well, what about Ice-T writing "Cop Killer"
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 07:55 PM by Synnical
That was denounced by Bush 41, yet Ice-T is now playing a "Special Victims Unit" cop on Law and Order?

What does that say about our culture? . . . of celebrity, I might add.

Edit for grammar

13. Just another scapegoat....
these people just can't admit that we have a sick society and need to scapegoat somebody or something (games, porn, etc) - meanwhile, in Canada, Europe and elsewhere they show nudity in the middle of the day on TV and Canadians have as many guns as we do percentage-wise, yet have 1/1000th the number of gun deaths as we do, and have much lower teen pregnancy rates, etc, etc, etc

14. OH NO- Dungeons and Dragons all over again..
Geez, when I was a teen, I was included among the dangerous masses of kids playing the oh so evil D&D!!!!

This is more of the same crap that had Ozzy Osbourne in the courtroom defending Suicide Solution, the same crap that came down on all rappers over Cop Killer(a), etc.

The people behind this shit need to pull their collective heads out of their asses. This is just more BS to distract us from the real issues in this country - like the corporate/criminal empire that is running things...

has the attention of the media. And she is using it to denounce Video Games. Period. You'd think after the way they trashed her and her husband she'd be up in arms to get to the bottom of the Plame leak...

17. Don't let it bother you
I guarantee you that this game will probably sell more copies and make more money due to all this negative publicity. These political moralist morons get to win over the idiot sheeple who fall for the "family values" BS meanwhile sales go up for whatever they're preaching against.

If I was a game designer it would be my dream for some political/religious blow hard to speak out against my game.

19. they fail to mention the cops are unbeatable in the game
They appear out of nowhere, far faster than they can be shot down, and are infinite in number.

The game doesn't encourage killing cops. It portrays them as invincible.
