Silent US Genocide against the "Heart of the World: Kogi Indians"
Dear DUers,
My head is EXPLODING!
I am so outraged right now at what I have just
learned about what has been done to the
beautiful Kogi tribe of South America by the
MURDEROUS thugs controlling our country.

Let me explain:
In the early 90's I saw a documentary called
"From the Heart of the World: A Message from the Elder Brothers"

It haunted me for years- a BBC employee made the film.
I saw it once and could not stop thinking about it for years.
I finally tracked it down, thanks to the net, and corresponded
briefly with the man who made the documentary and discovered
that I could get a copy.

In short, the message from the Elder Brothers, as the
Kogi refer to themselves, was based in CENTURIES of
spiritual teaching regarding a mountain which they believe is the
heart of the world- the message? When the mountain began to
die, so would the world. HELLO? Global warming has fulfilled
this warning.

Well, I just went to the Foundation trust site for the Kogi and
found this: An Open Letter to the President of the United States:
PLEASE READ IT AND FULLY COMPREHEND WHAT HAS HAPPENED.
http://www.taironatrust.org/

Like I said, knowing what little I do know about the Kogi,
one of the last Indigenous peoples to remain as they have
for CENTURIES on the planet, a BEAUTIFUL society living
in complete harmony with the planet, my head is exploding.
The utter EVIL that the Bushites are doing on this planet MUST stop.
NOW.

About the Kogi:
http://www.labyrinthina.com/kogi.htm
"The Kogi know secrets about nature that would make our scientists rethink their ideas on the environment and the universe. They have a presence about them that commands respect. The power of their mind is beyond comprehension. But few people outside of Colombia know who they are and what they represent. Why do they call themselves the Elder Brothers and how can we learn to live in the spiritual world that this lost tribe lives in?

8 years ago I saw an amazing video called "From the Heart of the World, The Elder Brothers Warning." It was about a unique indigenous community that lived in Northern Colombia who say they are keeping the world in balance. I was so impressed with these people because they are still living with the same spiritual values and traditions of their ancestors. But the ecological warning the Kogi shared touched a nerve and made me realize they may be right."

Please consider supporting to the
Tairona Foundation- they will send you a
copy of the documentary and believe me,
it will change your life.

it is so very devastating.
thank you for posting this

Open Letter to the President of the United States George W. Bush

COLOMBIA
About fumigations in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta

I work for a French NGO , "Tchendukua" whose goal is to recuperate land
for the Kogi Indians living in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in
Colombia.

In 2000 we bought, La Luna, a land, with access to the sea, It was the
first time since the Spanish invasion, the Kogis had a low land. They
where so happy, full of hope.
At the end of June 2004, La Luna became an " Indigenous Reserve" , a
protected area...
The Sierra is also one of the UNESCO's "Biosphere Reserves".
Fifteen days later, on July 17th, a plane from Dyncorp passed only once
to fumigate La Luna. That was enough to provoke a complete disaster.
Some days ago, I saw the rushes of a second movie we have made on the
Kogis.
Now, La Luna is like some places in Asia after the tsunami... I could
not believe it.

The Kogis took five years to regenerate the soil, now they will have to
wait, at least, five more years to replant. Everything is contaminated
and the streams are dry because there are no more trees to retain water.
What are they going to eat? What are they going to drink? Where to go?
Tchendukua's director in Santa Marta organized some time ago with the
Kogis and the farmers around, the eradication of coca by hand. There was
no coca in La Luna.
It is impossible that your sophisticated planes are unable to detect
Indians villages.

In the movie there is a scene with a Kogi shaman sitting in front of his
house, in the middle of the devastation. He is crying.
This image is unbearable and it will remain in my memory forever.
Yes, Mr. Bush, an image can turn people really angry.
Remember the picture of Nick Ut showing a little girl naked, burned by
Napalm, running on a road in Vietnam. This image had an incredible
impact in America.

Condolezza Rice wants Colombia to change its laws and spray in National
Parks such as La Macarena, El Catatumbo, La Sierra Nevada de Santa
Marta, etc...
To achieve that dirty job, a new aerial base for fumigation planes will
be build, $125 million.

The fumigation of La Luna on July 17th 2004 was completely illegal.

In the Sierra, Kogis, Arsarios-Wiwas, Kankuamos and Arhuacos are
starting to have health problems , especially children (see notes-page
14).

In Vietnam, after 45 years, Agent Orange is still active.
The new poisoned cocktail is called Agent Green. If you take the
ingredients one by one, it doesn't seem so dangerous. If you mix them,
highly concentrated, it is a terrible weapon. The mixture is made with
Monsanto Round Up Ultra, Cosmoflux 411F (illegal in the US), POEA and
the fungus fusarium oxysporum EN-4.

Dr David Sands, an American scientist who made some researches on EN-4
admits
( interview with the BBC-2000) that you can call it a Green Warfare or a
Biological Warfare.
When you had a few cases of Anthrax in your country it was immediately
called a terrorist biological attack...

The Dutch government donated 500.000 euros for the eradication of coca
by hand in the Amazonas and the Sierra. A part of this donation is
dedicated for substitution cultures and social development.
The Netherlands asked the parks director, Julia Miranda, to confirm
whether the decision to fumigate on the protected aeras was definitive,
because if it were so, "it could be motive to request the suspension of
activities financed by his Embassy".

Mr. Bush, you and your government, you will be responsible for the
genocide or ethnocide (see notes-page 10)) of the most ancient and
sophisticated precolombian cultures in Colombia.

The proper name for this worthless so-called drugwar is < BIOLOGICAL and
CHEMICAL WARFARE <.

Before writing this, I've asked to a Dr in Molecular Biology if I could
use those words, the answer was yes.

Mr. Bush, will you dare to say that you are doing this "In the Name of
God"?

Where are the courageous American scientists who helped to stop the
fumigations with Agent Orange in Vietnam in 1971?

REQUIEM FOR THE SIERRA NEVADA DE SANTA MARTA... AND MANY OTHER PLACES!

UNITED NATIONS
Economic and Social Council
Distr. GENERAL E/CN.4/2005/88/Add.2 10 November 2004

COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS Sixty-first session Item 15 of the
provisional agenda

INDIGENOUS ISSUES
Human rights and indigenous issues.
Report of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights and
fundamental freedoms of indigenous people, Mr. Rodolfo Stavenhagen
Addendum MISSION TO COLOMBIA*

Page 10

On the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, an area
visited by the Special Rapporteur, the Kankuamo people (3,000 families,
13,000 people and 12 communities), who live inside the "black line"
which marks the traditional boundary of their territory, are now in the
process of reclaiming their indigenous identity. Their lands have been
recognized, but no reserve has yet been established. Guerrilla groups
started arriving in the 1980s and AUC set up a base there in the 1990s,
with the result that the number of kidnappings and murders escalated to
a level far above the rural and regional average, particularly from 1998
onwards. It was then that the massacres of indigenous people, the mass
displacements, the blockades and the forced confinement of communities
to their villages began. More than 300 families are reportedly still
displaced as a result of attacks and threats of various kinds. The
accounts given to the Special Rapporteur testified to the continued
ethnic!
cleansing, genocide and ethnocide of the Kankuamo people despite the
protective and precautionary measures requested by the Ombudsman and the
Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and several urgent appeals by
a number of special mechanisms of the Commission on Human Rights.

Page 14

Indigenous organizations described to the Special Rapporteur the adverse
effects of indiscriminate spraying, including environmental damage to
the topsoil, fauna, flora and water, the destruction of subsistence
crops and direct damage to human health, including birth defects. The
Special Rapporteur was also told that there are technical and scientific
studies to substantiate these assertions. The indigenous peoples see the
aerial spraying of coca plantations as yet another violation of their
human rights and, save for a few occasions when they have given their
consent, actively oppose the practice; this position again brands them
as guerrilla sympathizers, as happened after the rights marches
organized by certain indigenous communities to protest against the
spraying. The Office of the Ombudsman has received 318 complaints
concerning spraying operations in three municipalities in Putumayo in
July 2002 and their effect on 6,070 families and 5,034 hectares of land.

3. Have you seen the documentary about the Kogi?
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 08:10 PM by BeHereNow
I have not stopped thinking about it for nearly
15 years now.
It has haunted me, literally.
The Kogi principles are very much like the Hopi,
who also consider their sacred land to be
the Heart of the World- the similarities in their
elder teachings is astonishing when you
consider the fact that neither had any contact
and yet developed very similar "end of time"
teachings.
We are so fucked.
The Kogi believe that they are responsible
for keeping the world safe- and NOW WE ARE KILLING THEM.
GOD DAMN YOU FUCKING BUSHITLERS.
FUCK YOU TO HELL.

6. I don't think I have seen it
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 08:25 PM by G_j
but I think I had heard of it somewhere.

The Hopi also came to mind when I read this.
Many think the Hopi predicted the atomic bomb in their prophecies. How sadly ironic that the material for the nuclear bombs dropped on Japan came from Hopi land.

ALL indigenous peoples on the planet are under assault today, if they haven't already been crushed.
Just as when a community of elephants is disconnected from the knowledge of their elders because of criminal poaching. Deep knowledge that has been passed on through generations is being lost forever. Like the young elephants the human race is being cut off from it's roots.

But who needs roots when you can buy cheap crap at Walmart?

9. It's so sad, isn't it?
Humans are the ONLY species on Earth
that actively bring about their own destruction.
Unfortunately, we destroy everything else with ourselves.

The BBC documentary by Alan Ereira is impossible to
find- I know, I searched for years.
It made such an impact on me, that I never stopped
searching- I finally found out how to get a copy
when I found the Tairona Trust web site.
They don't exactly advertise the fact that is available
until you click on the donation link. I think that is
deliberate. I think the documentary was pulled from
circulation due to the TRUTH that is discloses.

I knew it was the TRUTH when I saw it and I think
other people who saw it knew then too.

As we know, the TRUTH is very threatening to
the powers that be.

7. they're fukked too
if there's a 'silver lining' in all that's going on (i literally can't listen to 'news' anymore) it is that the bushpigs and the neocons and the law'n'order' and the 'burn again' crowd etc have backed the enemy of life itself, in their fury at tolerance and generosity and public spending on the public etc...the poor dupes sorta know that something is hideously wrong, and that each victory of their side aggravates the wrong...hahaha. 'Nothing fails like success when working for the devil' is an apt criticism of rightwing domination of news and politics...unfortunately, too much innocence, too much beauty and too much goodness must be detroyed to get at the evil that bushinc represents. The best anyone can do is clue the mindless punks into the fact there probably is a god, and HE will truly need eternity to punish those who shit in the life nest, again and again and again....

I really think this has HUGE implications-
You can contact the film maker you know-

Actually, I invited him to join us at DU to inform

12. You're very welcome, of course!
I gave it a vote, too.

Alan Ereira seems like a wonderful human being, I'm glad to know he's still hanging in there watching out for the Kogi.

The fact is, the evil people that control the world right now are the enemies of all beauty and light. It's not just the Kogi who are endangered, it's all of humanity.

For the Kogi, for ALL of us, these monsters must somehow be vanquished -- I just don't know if it will happen in time.

ALL the traditional indigenous people of the world know that we are reaching the point of no return. The Lakota wise men say that the day is coming when the earth will "shake man off as dog shakes off fleas".

The Hopi prophecies say that unless humanity turns away from materialism and violence the Fourth World will fall into ruin and darkness. The Hopi, like the Kogi, consider it their sacred duty and trust to preserve their ceremonies in order to maintain balance -- but we have moved so far OUT of balance that our destruction may be inevitable.

I think we have about run out of chances to turn the tide. Bringing down bushco would be a positive move in the right direction -- but how much hope is there of even that?

Thanks BHN for posting this about the Kogi. I had no idea our (deleted) gov't destroyed their beautiful land. Words fail me. My heart is heavy. I am furious and stunned into such an inability to even breathe. I can't believe they would do this and yet I am not at all surprised.

It is clear there are two paths in this world...are there enough on the one to lift the others from leading us down a path of no return, seems to be the recurring question......

the Kogi are an incredible light......I pray they keep shining that light as long as they can....

:hi: scarlet woman...yeah,I feel that we are too far out of balance....when things are tipped out of balance they usually fall, don't they? I just hope the landing is gentle for those who see the truth.

14. Recommended.
Very important.

I'll just make a quick comment, which is related. A little over a decade ago, I took part in the "test case" to put teeth into the Indian Burial Protection and Repatration law. We went to NYS Supreme Court in the Ondaga Nation v NYS OPRHP and DEC. The long story short is that politics and economics won out. A large interest that included construction companies was allowed to mine a "sacred site" and use the "fill" to cover a toxic waste site.

That which is sacred is being destroyed by the unconscious force.

Thank you for posting this.

56. The Kogi documentary .....
I have seen it, and believe I still have a copy of it here. It could be at my cousin's. I would look now, but I took a hard fall yesterday, and am limited right now. I think I'm okay from the neck up, though. (grin)

My cousin came up a week or two ago to cut up some trees that had come down. He brought his youngest son, age 14, and his son's best friend. The friend is a nice kid who has been thrown away emotionally by his parents. They are, like most children that age, more interested in video games and sports than the quiet woods. But my cousin e-mailed me two days later, and said now these boys want to come up and learn what a sweat lodge is about.

Maybe that is, on a tiny scale, part of the answer. Yet I know there are thousands of children living in concrete, blacktop, and steel worlds who never get a chance to go into the woods. No wonder their brains work so very differently.

When those two boys sweat, and then go afterwards to the falls to dip in the water -- and the season has created a lush environment there this year, with deep cold water, and giant green plants -- these two boys will have an experience that they will always remember. And it will change the way they relate to the world around them. I think both will be ready to take up he Good Fight.

I'm glad to take part in this thread. I have one that I might put on this weekend, about the concept of The Power of the Good Mind. It includes information on why coalition (actually, "confederacy") politics is so important. I think it will match with this thread.

yes, a sweat can change somebody, offer a deeper glimpse into one's 'self' and an opportunity to merge with the elements in a non-cerebral way. To offer this gift in a good way to fellow beings is a very gracious and loving thing to do IMO.

Our modern culture also offers very few, if any, healthy 'rights of passage' for young people becoming adults. Instinctively many seek that, but find mostly unhealthy cultural patterns (such as gangs etc.)

The Kogi story upset me so much because clearly
they are among the last people on the planet

Their belief that a great change is coming sounds

Or whoever controls the broadcast rights..

PBS surely has a copy of the tape on file. I saw it on PBS. The Beshara Trust magazine did the article that introduced me to the Kogi a decade ago, and I'm sure they would be interested in helping or informing.

I'm livid, I want to do something. I'll donate to the cause, and I'd love to have a copy of the tape, but I want this brought to the attention of the masses. I'm alerting a few people in the media.

I invited Alan Eriere to DU with the suggestion that
he inform our community and request our support.
Have not heard back from him yet, but given that
he is in the UK, he is probably asleep and has no idea
that we are furiously discussing the situation.
(I suggested that he post in GD, or GD Politics

It is evident that there has been a complete media

I think some DU activism directed at the media

the documentary broadcast here again
for all the fucking dumb asses who actually believe

Your anger is very evident, and I share the feelings of anguish. Have you ever considered though, the theory of Gaia wherein the power of the living planet being Earth is simply far more powerful than the power of mankind to destroy. When we become too much of an irritant, the planet will find a way to destroy the "virus". The whole "dominion over nature" thing is hilarious to me.

20. Tell me more about Gaia- am not familiar with it
Makes sense to me though-
We are SUCH a destructive force to the planet.
A threat to ALL beings and life here on Earth.
My dad always said that eventually a virus would
wipe us out- he said Mother Nature had no
choice but to rid herself of us.
If I could cast a vote for one group of people to survive
such a thing- I would vote for the Kogi.
That is why the news that they had been
attacked with chemical spraying by a Dyncorp plane
made my head explode.
They live in perfect harmony with nature-
Reports from those gifted with observing them
in person tell of a people with no gray hair,
no disease, superior mental capacity and
livestock and agriculture that would put
paradise to shame.
To attack such a pure society with chemical
warfare is an abomination beyond my comprehension.

Side note to your post about balance:
It is up to US to create balance- those among us who
are awake must begin a concentrated effort and
take unified action against the forces that have
wrought such devastating destruction.
The world belongs to all of us- and we have the right

I know the in-your-face topical issues are

have hit me on a very deep level.
I somehow feel that the harm done to

to flourish. In my heart of hearts, I feel that
we must protect the Kogi, assist in whatever
way we can to restore the balance and
the people like Rove and the issues like DSM
will be taken care of too.
Anyone understand or feel this way too?

response to honest emotion about a greivous injustice?

How many people reading this thread had a reaction of "get a grip"? Certainly no one else who posted on it. Horror and dismay over the fate of the Kogi were the immediate reactions of those who posted here.

What kind of person reads about other human beings having their lives destroyed and posts "get a grip" to someone who finds that appalling?

I really want to know. I simply can't imagine an interior life that doesn't grieve for the suffering of others. How does that person justify not caring?

61. The Kogi... (beautiful article with photos)

snip

They survived as a culture because the Kogi focus all their energy on the life of the mind as opposed to the life of a body or an individual.

Fundamental to that survival is the maintenance of physical separation from their world and the rest of humanity. They are very protective of their sacred space and the dense jungle is not kind to tourists.

They worry about the destruction of the rain forest as well as the planet itself. This area embraces some of the most biologically diverse tropical rainforests on the planet. The Kogi are inseparable from the rainforest habit in which they have lived since the dawn of time.

As with most indigenous tribes a connection to Spirit or entities from other worlds who bring messages, is found.

Through oracle propheices and message with Spirit, they are aware of a great change that is coming now to planet Earth. Their Mountain is dying, symbolizing this transition. Similar to what many other tribes around the world see is a world that was about to be destroyed by the misuse of consciousness. Then they saw the emergence of light consciousness as part of the process of humanity emerging as a race of beings in higher evolved light bodies. This strongly connects with the metaphysical teachings of our times.

70. I wish I could do something
I think people should NOT enlist or submit to a draft.

Too much crime Too much greed.

our country has sociopaths leading it.And they will not be stopped easily. We need people evil enough to fight the corrupt. And moral enough to stand up for people like the kogi.

If sacrifice is what you think is noble sacrifice your home and arrange for a few Kogi to stay there.I dunno.

America sucks. And her people are cowards in the face of authority figures.

And I send this to the Kogi .I am so very sorry.I hope you all hear me and those of us who think this is so wrong...
I learned about your tribe about three years ago.
I for one will be glad when it's all over and the human blight the white eyed monster is dead along with it's sociopath human hosts.I don't know who brought death here.I know we were once an eternal self sustaining system of being..before the monsters got in,before the evil mixed in with the good principles ,and made our lives into a salad dressing of joy and misery so difficult to separate. All is not one.really Death was not here until it was brought here..
I do not know what I can do now the sickness is so entrenched.
And it hurts. It scares me that so many can't even feel it.

83. Sad Story.
They are, indeed, a treasure. They're the only tribe in Columbia the Spanish couldn't conquer.

92. Kicking for the Saturday Night Crew-
Edited on Sat Jul-23-05 06:43 PM by BeHereNow
Love to all of you who have tended the thread today-
I just got back home and will kick it till the
cows come home-
Like I said in an earlier post-
The Kogi have told us that for a long time, they
have kept the world in balance, or safe.
The message they gave us through Alan's documentary
was that they needed us to change, that the imbalance
was growing out of control, too drastically for them to keep us
safe. Pardon my bad paraphrasing, but TRULY, I feel that
protecting them is essential to defeating the evil of the
Bush Administration and the forces that are destroying us all.
Again, I ask, does anyone else know what I am talking
about?
I mean, perhaps we have survived as long as we have
as a species due to the Elder brothers.
If they are destroyed, what then?
BHN

This is a really important message. I would love to get a copy of the documentary. I was going to nominate your wonderful work here, but apparently I missed the 24 hour window in which to do so. I will bookmark this one though. :-) Thanks for putting this together.
