How do you explain a Republican Party that refuses to think ?
They refuse to think independently about anything. Sometimes they act like the rats following the flute player. They do whatever their leaders say, no matter how irrational or unwise. They do not question authority. They rationalize as one masssive group. It is always "partisan" politics. Democrats are just trying to get our President, George W Bush, they say. They have a propaganda system in place that effectively permits them to put up a shield against all criticism and opposition. They are right. They are never wrong. No matter what the facts say, they are sticking behind their leaders. No Republican is capable of lying or breaking the law. You're just saying that because you're one of those "liberals" that hate our country.

1. This is a thought pattern of fear. It is the confidence of the
passenger on the disabled airliner that the pilot is the best of the best, of the innocent murder defendant that his lawyer is brilliant and the judge and jury fair and unbiased, of the cancer patient that he is getting the best medical care known to science. It's Brittany Spears chewing her gum and saying "trust our President." In short, it is faith-based.

2. I think that's what makes them Republicans
If they could think, they'd have become Democrats. I'm not saying that all Democrats think--some of them are following a herd, too. But most people who think in any real way about politics wind up Democrat.

7. Old one, but a good one
Thinkers Anonymous

It started out innocently enough. I began to think at parties now and then -- to loosen up. Inevitably, though, one thought led to another, and soon I was more than just a social thinker. I began to think alone -- "to relax," I told myself -- but I knew it wasn't true.
Thinking became more and more important to me, and finally I was thinking all the time. That was when things began to sour at home. One evening I had turned off the TV and asked my wife about the meaning of life. She spent that night at her mother's.
I began to think on the job. I knew that thinking and employment don't mix, but I couldn't stop myself. I began to avoid friends at lunch time so I could read Thoreau and Kafka. I would return to the office dizzied and confused, asking, "What is it exactly we are doing here?"
One day the boss called me in. He said, "Listen, I like you, and it hurts me to say this, but your thinking has become a real problem. If you don't stop thinking on the job, you'll have to find another job."
This gave me a lot to think about.
I came home early after my conversation with the boss. "Honey," I confessed, "I've been thinking ..." "I know you've been thinking," she said, "and I want a divorce!"
"But Honey, surely it's not that serious."
"It is serious," she said, lower lip aquiver. "You think as much as college professors, and college professors don't make any money, so if you keep on thinking, we won't have any money!"
"That's a faulty syllogism," I said impatiently. She exploded in tears of rage and frustration, but I was in no mood to deal with the emotional drama.
"I'm going to the library," I snarled as I stomped out the door. I headed for the library, in the mood for some Nietzsche. I roared into the parking lot with NPR on the radio and ran up to the big glass doors... They didn't open. The library was closed. To this day, I believe that a Higher Power was looking out for me that night.
As I sank to the ground, clawing at the unfeeling glass, whimpering for Zarathustra, a poster caught my eye. "Friend, is heavy thinking ruining your life?" it asked.
You probably recognize that line. It comes from the standard Thinker's Anonymous poster. Which is why I am what I am today: a recovering thinker. I never miss a TA meeting.
At each meeting we watch a non-educational video; last week it was "Porky's." Then we share experiences about how we avoided thinking since the last meeting. I still have my job, and things are a lot better at home. Life just seemed ... easier, somehow, as soon as I stopped thinking. I think the road to recovery is nearly complete for me.
Today, I registered to vote Republican.

8. my mom sent me a joke last Sept or October
It was something like "Robot Bartender"... a local bar had a robot bartended installed & the owner was very proud of how good it was. He told his skeptical partner, "all you have to do is tell it your IQ and it will converse with you in an IQ appropriate conversation"

So, one guy came in & said his IQ was 180, so the robot engages the guy in a deep conversation about quantum physics, rocket science, etc. The partner was impressed.

The next customer comes in and says their IQ is 100, so the robot turns around & talks about sports, movies & the latest music. The partner was even more impressed.

Then, another customer comes in and sayd his IQ is 70. The robot says, "so, you voting for Bush again this year?

5. Read Lakoff's book "Don't Think of An Elephant!" and you'll see
how the bastards are so freakin' clever at "framing" things thru the devious use of language that resonates on really primal levels and makes people feel a certain way despite of evidence to the contrary. THAT'S how they do it.

6. A party that doesn't think is how the repukes win
It is the only way they can win because if people would stop and think about what they are saying or doing they couldn't support this regime for a minute.

9. traitors to this nation and its principles.
they have to know even more than we that the financial policies of this administration are ruining this country. they have to know even more than we that the policies of this administration are destroying our military and ruining our reputation over the entire world.
they have to know even more than we that this administration is corrupt to the core.

yet they persist in supporting it. they are traitors. they are corrupt. they have decided to take the corporate payoff and chose political power for themselves rather than do the right thing for this country. i think they have made a deliberate and conscious decision to do this. it's not refusing to think. it's deliberately choosing to do the wrong thing and then look away from the consequences.

13. for most, thought exists to rationalize emotion
And in that case, it doesn't really matter what the content is, only the tone.
