I liked him, for the sam reason I like Dean! Both seemed to be willing to tell the truth during their campaign, and that's such a rarity!!!

I can't tell yu how disappointed I am in him with his actions in the last few years. I wrote him several emails about how disappointing he's been, and I'm sure he's ruined any chance he might have had to actually be President. I'm also sure he doesn't care about those emails.

I voted for Gore that year, and that's who I really wanted to win, but because there's always such a gamble on who's really going to win, I wanted someone on the other side that I felt I could at least live with.

Too bad, I lost on both counts!

I'm from PA, and I know Specter is a rupug, but I am going to write and write and write to try and pressure him to ask these questions. I hope everyone in a state with a Senator on the committee does the same.

Let them go for their nuclear option and destroy the filibuster. Let them show their true face. Besides, if we sit back and let Roberts waltz through - next time they will throw him in our collective face and use him as the reason why we should not fight the next battle and the next and the next.

Roberts advised Jeb on how to get the Florida vote count stopped. So, how in the world can you, of all people Guy, ask why we should fight Roberts' nomination?

And finally, I suppose you have to have a uterus to understand why fighting Roberts is important. You go pick your battles while we fight this monster. Don't fight him if you wish. Sit back. But please don't encourage others to follow your advice.

I acknowledge your points, but I keep wondering who they are keeping back to spring on us after the "fight" is over.

I don't think we can win that fight; we can express strong disagreement, but I don't see how we win.

And, if we should "win" to the extent that Roberts backs out? Who do they have waiting to step up to the plate? I don't think it's anyone we'd like better. I keep imagining their evil glee as they put forward someone even more right-wing, claiming that they "tried" to bring a "moderate."

I'm just running on a tight budget, at this point. I'm looking for the most bang for my limited buck, and I don't know that this is my best target.

There are so many to choose from, aren't there? The SC nominee, the recent House vote on the Patriot Act, Rove, Iraq, the use of terrorist activity to keep the masses reacting in fear, the rampant corporate control of public systems, the media, the out of control religious right and their incursions....where do we begin? When we divide our efforts on so many fronts, they are diluted. I'd like to pick one with a potential victory, and spend my time, energy, and focus there.

That's not a pocketbook issue. That's a position.

Writing emails of protest or posting coments on blogs and bulletin boards or groups isn't necessarily a funds issue but they can help if you can make the time and aren't on a costly dialup.

It's a state where I acknowledge the strengths and weaknesses of more than one position, and don't endorse any of them.

The budget issue I'm referring to isn't a personal funds issue, it's a national Democratic Party capital issue. As the minority party, there is just so much political capital available to spend, and so much political energy available to pour into any one of those fights.

On a personal level, I spend time making phone calls, writing letters, going to meetings, etc.; I also have a limited fund of time available, and have to pick my targets from here, as well. Ambivalence says that I haven't decided whether or not this is the best target to spend the fund of time and political capital on.

I could get Guy's show with it before, but not tonight. We're all going to be forced to get OS 10.x eventually, but I was hoping to put that off until I could afford a new computer.

What model of computer are you using? I have also a grape iMac 266 with just 6 gigs of HD, but I was able to install OS X (10.3.1) and it worked fine (including the Guy James stream), though, if you have only 9.x applications, I guess you might want to wait to upgrade everything at once. :(
