Here's why I like Larry Johnson
He's absolutely right in this fascinating email exchange with CBS.

The testimony at that hearing on Friday was some of the most compelling footage I've ever seen, and as much as I've read about the Rove case, that testimony made me understand the importance of it in a way I'd never understood it.

And of course the TV media isn't interested in the testimony that makes sense of it all, they want to keep it muddled and look like conventional partisan squabbling with no real meaning behind it. Gloria Borger said as much in her report the other day.

Hello there,

Hoping to reach you this fine Saturday. We're doing a story for tonight's Evening News on the latest developments in the Karl Rove/Valerie Plame case, and your testimony yesterday about what all this means for national security.

If you can give me a call back: 202-XXXXXX, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks so much,

Carrie Rabin
Producer
CBS News

I did and they came out for an interview. I spent about a half hour with them.

Thanks so much for speaking with us.

Unfortunately, our piece was cut to just a minute, and we had to kill our sound bite with you. But we'll save the interview for the numerous other broadcasts interested in the story.

Thanks again for your time...and hope to speak with you soon...
Carrie

Carrie,
Here's what is fascinating. Our testimony yesterday on this issue before a joint committee of Senate and House Democrats has been the most widely requested piece that C-Span has had in quite a while. Yet, most of the Main Stream Media seems to be cowering in fear at following this story. Pretty sad. Who is out there speaking on behalf of Valerie Plame? Only a few of us.
Pat Lang told me earlier today this is what would happen.
I won't be available for CBS in the future. No need to waste my time with you folks because, whether I spend time with you or not, the story gets ignored.
Larry

4. I only know him from the Rove story
Edited on Sat Jul-23-05 06:28 PM by Cocoa
other than that, I don't know of any other public role.

edit: he was the first one I heard finger Scooter Libby, and he fingered him early and fingered him hard.

8. No, don't think so...
...he is a former Bush official. He appeared for a while on Fox as a talking head. Definately a "Road to Damascus" story.

16. He was featured in the Greenwald documentary, "Outfoxed..."
...as a former FauxNews contributor/analyst who was promptly dropped after he told the truth about something Faux didn't want to hear the truth (unable to recall the specific topic, though).

19. I remember him. He was former CIA, one of their hired "experts."
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 10:12 AM by Rhiannon12866
He was under contract to FOX News, but after stating that (I think it was to Sean Hannity) the Iraq war was a diversion from the "war on terror" and would actually serve to increase incidents of terrorism, he was never used again, and then dropped.

20. I know I've seen him interviewed numerous times, so it's hard to remember
Cooley Hurd (reply #16) reminded me that he was in the documentary "Outfoxed," and I just saw him just this past weekend, on C-Span, in that hearing which he refers to in his e-mail. He testified before Waxman's committee on the threat to national security posed by the "outing" of undercover CIA operatives.

2. Although CBS has always stuck their neck out
farther than the other nets, this is disappointing.

You go Larry.

7. Hope he doesn't give up entirely
I guess we who have given up on the MSM entirely have to somehow communicate this more strongly to MSM's corporate offices.

10. Politics aside he's a good man
It took alot of personal courage for him to go against his party.
I wish him well and that there were more republicans like him.

21. Yes. I saw him just this past weekend on C-Span
in that hearing which he refers to in his e-mail. He testified before Waxman's committee on the threat to national security posed by the "outing" of undercover CIA operatives. He was excellent. I'm sure it'll be repeated.

14. CBS has been cowed since Rather left the evening news
I'm really disappointed in them, too. Bob Schieffer just doesn't cut it with me-on Face the Nation he always seems to be asking questions in such a way that the WH will get a pass.

NBC is more hard-hitting lately, especially David Gregory. ABC would come in second, especially Ted Koppel and George Stephanopolis. He has even had the editor of The Nation on his Sunday show.

Cable news doesn't do real reporting, so they don't count(with the possible exception of Keith Olbermann).
