Bush Will Fire Rove
Contrary to popular belief, loyalty doesn't mean anything to Bush. He'll dump Rove as soon as the indictment comes in; he won't wait for a conviction. The firing will be hailed as "brilliant" and "risky" but it's inevitable.

Rove is a scapegoat because the war has gone badly. If the war were going well, we wouldn't be hearing anything of this. If a corporation experiences a bad year, the CEO has to report the actions he's taken to remedy the situation. Bush can't fire Rumsfeld, because that would acknowledge how badly the war has gone. Bush can't fire Cheney unless he agrees to quit under a cloud. That's unlikely.

There's no one else to fire. Unfortunately for Rove, he can't just walk away because he has committed a crime. Given the context, it's a small potatoes crime, but a crime nevertheless. The Bush administration never had much going for it. Bush will be remembered in history as a weakling and an opportunist. This narrative is already well underway.

1. I don't think he can avoid letting Rove
Spend more time with his family if an indictment comes down.

They've already tried to make Tenent the scapegoat - I don't think it worked very well in the long run, because we're still in Iraq and it's still getting worse.

22. Bush can't fire Rove
Obviously they are shielding others higher up and are afraid to let the cat out of the bag. I don't doubt Bush knew about and approved of the Plame outing.

All Subrosa Secret Sleazy Pathways Open to Turd B. and Shrub that Fertilization May Remain Eternal. Fecund, redolent, Ongoing, as ever it was, in the Moist Fulsome Darkness of the Crypt Now.

I'd bet a frikkin whole-wheat, maple-frosted doughnut on it.

3. He may be "fired", but it will be on Rove's terms.
Karl has the goods on Dimson. It won't be Bush that fires Karl. He'll probably agree to counsel from afar. Not sure W can survive, politically, without his alter ego.

5. How can he? It would be like firing himself.
Don't forget who pulls the strings in that relationship. If he "fires" Rove -- it will be a ploy, and Rove will still be just as involved as ever. He needs to go to jail -- nothing less.

The ramifications are pretty bad.

11. Given the Context
I agree that leaking the name of a spy is pretty serious business, but the context of the Plame outing is a war started on the basis of lies. Thousands of people have died as a result of Bush's bullshit. On a scale of horror from zero to ten, leaking the name of a spy rates about a two. This is the same administration that committed genocide in Fallujah.

15. Our intelligence capability was severly wounded.
I'm not going to compare the damage to a war - just saying it was very damaging. We just don't know the extent yet.

10. I think Rove will resign--after a strong nudge.
Tbey won't handle it with a firing. Rove will be portrayed as a guy falling on his sword to help maintain the "honor" of the Bush regime.

12. NO WAY-- Rove will end up wrapped around a tree before they fire him
Or alternately Rove will get * first.

These clowns are like mob types -- there is NO WAY bush can cut rove loose JMO (and granted I have watched and read about too many mob cartel type stories)

14. I agree. Rove is a cowardly thug and.................
uses that power to go after those he can intimidate. He will not spend one hour in jail and would sing like crazy if that were to be the case.
Not only does he know where all the skeletons are, he created or put into effect most of them from the election of 2000 to the present.
They won't let him take them all down.

13. What scares me is wondering what the ultimate distraction will be
to take the heat off of them all. You know that they are presently cooking up something, and desperate times call for desperate measures.
There is nothing that I would put past them.

17. You folks are all concentrating on Rove. I think that's wrong.
I believe Fitz has many more fish in his net, and he's getting ready to pull it up on the boat!

Just read the different articles that have been published in the last two weeks. Sure, Rove is the most obvious, but there have been statements about difference in testimony between reporters and Scooter Libby, Fitz getting the phone records from AF1, the State Dept. memo with the stamp "S /NF". There's more to this mess than just Rove.

Have patience and wait to see whose in the net when it's pulled onboard!

18. The final word is the GJ's, not bush's, not rove's
bush may fire rove, or vice versa, but that is truly re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

At least it would appear so.

19. The ONLY thing BushCo had going for it was "likability."
Of course that "likability" was always a PR Firm construct.

However, a basic building block of BushCo's likability factor has been projecting the aura of infallibility; in fact that infallibility has been portrayed as Divine.

Rule #1 of BushCo is to NEVER admit a mistake. Rule #2 is that they invent their own reality and then rely on the smokescreens to pull everyone else along.

Rovegate threatens the very foundations that these corrupt and illegal squatters have based their coup upon.

If Bush fires Rove, then he will have to publicly admit a mistake for hiring a 'bad man.' That's against #1. If that 'bad man' becomes the central figure in exposing the 'phony' reasons for war, then that exposes #2.

Wherever they turn, BushCo is in a heap of trouble. But, I don't put anything past them....even very bad things.

20. He didn't fire Rumsfeld. Why? Because he doesn't need a scapegoat
he doesn't need a fall guy.

The only reason he would ever have to cut someone loose is if there were actually pressure on him.

21. Bush et al will continue to thumb their noses at us all
Unfortunately, I don't think anything will happen to Rove. These people (and I use the term loosely) will continue to make their own rules, "fix the facts," prey on the ignorant, pad their own pockets and fight illegal wars on the backs of the poor all with a smirk on their faces and claiming that God is on their side. It makes me sick.
