Do your part for global warming

Finally, instead of talking about global warming, a German scientific team is doing something about it. The researchers have determined that the earthís orbit needs to be directed ever so slightly away from the sun -- thus cooling the planet down. The group has calculated that if just 600 million folks like us would jump up and down at precisely the same time, we could actually move earth (but probably not heaven). This is not a joke. They say that 110 million people are already signed on. "World Jump Day" is July 20, 2006. To get the specifics, and the exact "jump time" for your time zone go to www.venehammerschlag.com/worldjumpday. Hop to it.

1. Yes, this is a joke
The combined mass of everyone in the world is infinitesimal compared to the mass of the earth itself. If it makes people feel good and highlights the GW problem....then by all means, jump.

3. If they move it too much
We can just jump on the other side to push it back :D

Then we go spiraling into the sun, thus destroying all life and ending human civilization. Oh well, we had a good run.

7. One time in the Navy . . .
Next to our ship, someone tied up a barge to the dock, which was made of wooden timbers, with too short of a mooring line. When the tide went out the barge got hung up with one corner on top of a timber, about to crush it.
The Chief Bosun's Mate, who was so worthless they had made him "go be in charge of the parking lot", got up a working party of a couple hundred of us to stand on the barge (adding, of course, to the weight). Not knowing at this point what to do next the Chief ordered us to "Jump up and down", which we gladly all did - to the great amusement of all the sailors on all the other ships also in port that day.

When the tide came in the barge floated off the pier and whoever was on Pier Sentry duty let out a little more line and saved us all from imminent harm. Go Navy.

My dad use to say "Don't just stand there - do SOMETHING, even if it's wrong!"

8. Utterly, absolutely stupid...
..this has got to be a joke.

4 billion people could jump up and down and it wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference.

As a previous poster said, if it draws attention to the issue then by I suppose it's fine to jump up and down to your hearts content - but it ain't gonna have any impact on global warming.

Global warming is a serious problem, not something to be trivialized with nonsense such as this.

9. We need to play catch-up
I've noticed the geckos and turtles in my yard have been jumping up and down lately.

I think they may have out-organized us and the reptiles and amphibians are trying to hasten global warming since they hate the cold.

10. Or you could just become a pirate
You may be interested to know that global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters are a direct effect of the shrinking numbers of Pirates since the 1800s. For your interest, I have included a graph of the approximate number of pirates versus the average global temperature over the last 200 years. As you can see, there is a statistically significant inverse relationship between pirates and global temperature.
