Great idea. I'd also love to have Bernie Sanders on the show. From what I've been told he's very exciting live.

21. And who would tell you such things?
;-)

My vote is for him as well.

Here's his Independence Day message on his Web site:

At first blush it sounds like a paranoid fantasy about the United States' becoming a "1984"-style society: Federal agents have the power to know which publications individuals have checked out of the public library or purchased at a bookstore. But this isn't from the overwrought imagination of some conspiracy theorist. It's the law. The statute is an Orwellian-sounding measure, the PATRIOT Act, which stands for "Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism." Approved following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack, the PATRIOT Act greatly expanded the government's authority to secretly investigate the reading habits of people in the United States. By obtaining a warrant from a special court, FBI and other government agents can access book check-out records, Internet and e-mail use and other information-gathering activities of people using library facilities. Over the past few weeks, Rep. Bernie Sanders has been conducting a nationwide campaign to enhance Americans' awareness of the library and bookstore provisions of the PATRIOT Act. The Vermont congressman is the prime author of legislation to repeal that section of the anti-terrorism law.

Lots of great links and information about it on his site. He's encouraging people to put the pressure on their reps to get more people to sign on as co-sponsors. I bet if you pitched your ability to reach thousands of activists that have a proven track record of making things happen, you might be able to interest him. It's worth a shot.

13. Has Joe Conason been on yet?
Edited on Sun Jul-06-03 07:25 PM by Ivory_Tower
Molly Ivins would be great. And Jim Hightower. What about Mario Cuomo?

And I concur with the suggestions above -- Bev Harris and Janeann Garafolo are great ideas. (Edit: Howard Zinn, too)

If you can be sure that ALL the candidates could make an appearance (not at the same time, of course), then yeah, try to get the candidates.

Would it make sense to get some other radio hosts to call in for an interview? (Sort of a cross-pollination -- it would be interesting to hear you talk with Mike Malloy, for instance.)

(Edit: typos, added Howard Zinn.)

23. If you ever get the chance, check out the website of thisishell.com
It's the 4 hour Northwestern University radio program. I can't name the guests but they have had an unbelievable array of activists and authors on. I listened to a 1 hour interview with a former Walmart Store Manager turned labor activist that was awesome.
