Why did Gonzales spill?
(about calling Card). I'm thinking it's sour grapes over not getting the Supreme Court nomination.

Doesn't this show disloyalty to the Chimp?

1. I'm suspicious.
the BFEE doesn't allow sour grapes.
either you're loyal, or dead, or politically destroyed.

Since they've launched NO personal attacks against gonzales, I assume its Rove psyops, or CYA on trying to match earlier testimony in the grand jury.

2. You could be right
I thought of sour grapes and alluded to that yesterday, but the more I think about it, the less I like it.

4. Keeps your head busy trying to figure them out doesn't it?
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 09:45 AM by hang a left
I am always trying to figure them out. I am sure it was orchestrated. But I have very little doubt that Gonzales' loyalty doesn't ly with his masters. If I could take a guess it would be that he was asked a question and it was answered truthfully. When this investigation is over and there are indictments, I am sure the AG doesn't want to be shown as a liar.

on edit: I just thought that maybe he is sending a warning. He may have some kind of information about the case and he is signaling to others.

CIA seeks probe of White House (Thread Two)
http://www.msnbc.com/news/937524.asp?0cv=CB10

The CIA has asked the Justice Department to investigate allegations that the White House broke federal laws by revealing the identity of one of its undercover employees in retaliation against the woman’s husband, a former ambassador who publicly criticized President Bush’s since-discredited claim that Iraq had sought weapons-grade uranium from Africa, NBC News has learned.

19. This is my guess also...
preemptive strike. He's saving his own butt -- is he setting up Card? Or the Chimp?

He may be a loyal Bush-Bot, but it seems he isn't willing to take the fall for them.

7. Because HE'S An Incompetent Boob, Too!
I've always said this is a guy who would be chasing ambulances if he weren't playing the legal beagle cabana boy for Dear Leader -- do you know one lawyer who thinks his "work" on reviewing those death penalty appeals or the Geneva Conventions is anything but the kind of drivel that would get a first-year law student hooted out of the room?

It may be nice to think he was playing gotcha for being stepped over for the Supreme nomination, but I think it's simpler than that: he doesn't know what the f**k he's doing or saying. The only one in that place who does is Rove.

And look where it's getting him.

20. I'd say that's pretty much on the money
He was asked a direct question and knew he'd get caught soon enough if he didn't cop to having given someone a head's up. You're right, though, he's no whiz kid.

Don't forget: Cheney's quite smart, and he's a truly dangerous Dick.

Rove is overrated, but he's good at what he does; he's sort of a mixture of Goebbels and Bormann.

Gonzales was not aware the fact was not widely known when he repeated it on the talk show.

9. Very important question, imo...
Why indeed? He did not have to go on those talk shows on Sunday. He knew they would ask him about Roberts and/or Rove. But he went on anyway. And he didn't have to answer the question, let alone volunteer an answer, about Andrew Card. But he did. Why???

Most people operate in their own self-interest. I think that may be where Gonzales is coming from. He opened a big ol' can of worms with his comments about Andrew Card and you can bet that the White House was not one bit happy about it. They won't say it out loud right now - that is not their style. But Gonzales may feel that he is chosen to be the fall guy when the shit hits the fan? And he's not accepted that role yet?

10. My first thought was that Gonzo considered telling Card a good thing.
I'm very likely wrong, but my first reaction was that he was told he could wait until the morning, but in fact tried to inform the staff right away. Unfortunately everyone had gone home for the evening except Andy, so he had to wait until the morning to tell the others. He tried to tell everyone even before he was required to, so he was going "above and beyond." (Makes perfect sense after a couple of glasses of kool-aide.)

It seemed that his off-the-cuff answer about telling Card before telling anyone else was his attempt to look proactive and prove that everyone is doing the "hard work" it takes to get to the bottom of this. I also imagine that he wishes he could take those words back right now.

As I said I'm probably wrong, but my first thoughts were, "Ooops!"

11. I think he had...
gone before the grand jury and testified to the 12 hour-Andy Card crap so he couldn't deny it...and...don't you think a 12 hour gap sounds so much better than an 84 hour gap? And I'm sure he's a little pissed about the Supreme Court pass-over.

13. Preemptive Assault
Why indeed? Life after Bush, these guys are professional muck-rakers and are always scamming something and someone. Gonzales knew perfectly well what his “revelation” would mean. He could very well trying protecting himself and/or setting Card up to take the fall. Any number of other sinister motives surly regurgitate in his (pea) brain. Bush is a “Lame Duck” everyone is now planning their next assignment. These people are habitual life long con artists with no moral compass.

The more corrupt, the higher up the Greedy Obeisant Perpetrators food chain you go.

14. Why did he even appear on CBS? The party line was omerta ...
silence. Yet he goes on National TV?

Do they still have plans for him as SCOTUS nominee? Now that he is so adorable and trying to do the right thing by everybody.:sarcasm:

Well one thing we know ... Orin Hatchet just respects the heck out of this guy. Yeaay for good guy Orin Hatchet. How can you not 'like' this guy - you know the way Andy Sipowitz likes some skells.

"HATCH COMMENTS ON NOMINATION OF JUDGE ALBERTO GONZALES AS THE NEXT ATTORNEY GENERAL

Washington – Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah), Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today issued the following statement praising President Bush’s nomination of Alberto Gonzales as United States Attorney General:

“President Bush made an excellent choice by selecting Judge Alberto Gonzales as the next Attorney General of the United States. I have had the pleasure of working closely with Judge Gonzales throughout President Bush’s administration.

“Judge Gonzales’ record in Texas and the White House are praise-worthy. His legal, military, government and professional experience has proven to be a great asset to our country during very trying times. I am confident that he will be promptly confirmed and make a superb Attorney General.

“I am confident that Attorney General Gonzales will be good for the citizens of Utah and all Americans. I consider him a great personal friend.”"

any of these individuals. Everything is done for a reason that may not be revealed for a while. You can bet he had the consent of the President before he made that statement. I don't trust him...
