Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 12:45 PM by southernleftylady
How do you think america would view this war IF:we saw the pictures that the rest of the world sees ... the death the destruction of daily lives of the iraqis? we see the thousands upon thousands of innocent civilians, children dead.. how do you think this war would play out?
How do you think america would view this war IF: We the american people had to PAY for this war? with higher taxes? rations? just walk around down street U.S.A. and do we look like a country in war?? (besides military towns)
instead of making a HUGE deficit and letting our children and grandchild pay for this war and make loans with china.... for those who support this war.. were made to actually SUPPORT THIS WAR... by paying for it...car companies instead of making gas guzzlers would make armour for hummers in the military?.. how do you think this war would play out??

1. Why do you think they don't allow the pictures?
It was pictures that turned U.S. public opinion against the Vietnam War.

2. It would be less popular.
But it also probably wouldn't change much. People have bought the line that we have to stay there until...something or other happens and we can leave.

People have an unfortunate ability to filter out reality when it conflicts with their position. So, the war would drag on.

4. Nope, Lydia is right. Having pictures in the TV of soldiers
being shot at during the dinner hour killed the support for Vietnam. I remember my Mother being all for "killin' them commies" until her own children got drafted and she could see what we were in for if we went "over there". Brought it all home to her and she suddenly didn't see the need to change the world.

7. Your history is a bit off.

We had pictures on TV of Vietnam for YEARS before there was any change, gruesome scenes from as early as 1966. It made people like the war less, but not enough to get rid of a bastard like Nixon in 1972, or to get us out of Nam until 1975.

Pictures from Iraq would have the same minimal effect. You and Lydia are WRONG.

Reimplementing the draft would have a slightly larger impact, particularly if children of the elite were as likely for COMBAT duty as everyone else. Even that though wouldn't stop our national madness. Sheeple buy the "stay the course" bullshit time after time.

5. Most Americans don't have the stomach
for that kind of butchery. The pugs and especially the PNAC Neo-cons know this. That's why there are no expose's on the carnage and relatively little news other than sanitized footage of billowing smoke way off in the distance from the latest car bomb. If the true horrors of war were shown on TV there would be outrage among the majority of TV viewers not so much because of the carnage itself but because it would upset their notion that every thing is under control. That is what ignorance does. Educate and inform, that will bring on the outrage. I suspect many Americans prefer ignorance, because it's the easy way out.

6. If the world has seen the rest of the pictures, they'd have been posted
here. You can't filter out the internet that fast.

So I don't believe the rest of the world has seen them, yet.
