Help please. Do you know of websites posting US troop stories from Iraq?
I'm trying to share some information in response to a local LTTE saying americans aren't hearing the truth about how well things are going in Iraq from the media and they need to hear from the soldiers themselves.

So far, this is the only site I'm familiar with.
www.optruth.org

Can you help with any others?

1. I get tidbits from the postings at www.anysoldier.com
they sometimes talk about how things are going. What I tell the "the media isn't telling the truth" crowd is that they are not for or against the war; they really don't seem to care because they've turned tabloid - I hear more about missing white girls and Michael Jackson than I do about any bad OR good news concerning the "war on terror".

6. Thanks. These are excellent but the links are a bit long to try to
get into a LTTE response. Hmmm... I'll work on it.

9. You don't really need the first part of the link
It was just the search I did to find them. For example

http://www.pbs.org/search/redir/http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/company

could be shortened leaving off the search part

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/company

3. There is a great one in the San Diego Union Tribune Sundays edition
that goes into how troops are sick of being the only ones fighting this war. That the government is only demanding from them and not from Americans to sacrifice--no bonds to help pay for equipment needed, no tax increases to help fund the war correctly etc. -- a war dished out on us but a government that wants to portray as not REALLY a war.

It's in the online opinion section.

7. Thank you. I read that and it's very good.
But I'm looking for an online site with ongoing input from soldiers either in or returned from Iraq. Something people can keep going back to.

But seriously, thanks for the input.

11. I don't believe you will find a blog
The military frowns on it

If a soldier is writing a blog he knows to keep it quiet and knows the military will be watching it.

14. I know. I've been reading about that. But I thought maybe some vets
might be doing something else since returning.

If they've let any return yet.

21. A very pro-military blog (no name provided) with links to other
pro-military blogs.

Amazing how hard it is to find any that talk about the atrocities there.

Could be because everything has to go through headquarters now and anything negative is "bad for morale" so it's stopped?

Anyway - today's blogs that get through are all pretty pro-war so that makes it appear like "it's all good".

26. It is part of BushCo's happy face PR campaign
they paid people to write happy Iraqi blogs. A couple of them were unmasked in 2003/4. Some were written by people here in the states, and some were Iraqis paid to blog happy stories.

Many are closed now because interest has waned.

18. He did blog unfavorably about Iraq - but was also campaigning
"Campaigning for public office without permission from the secretary of defense while on active duty in the Armed Forces is a violation of Defense Department regulations."

This seems to be what they're using to hassle him.

I saw you post this somewhere else on DU recently and said a prayer for you then. I'll also add his photo to my prayer box that gets daily attention.

25. I know. That's a good one. I just didn't want to bring Moore's name up
when dealing with a rabid neo-conster. There's no way he'd even go to that site, much less believe anything there.

Sigh.......

27. Can't you cut and paste a few comments? I also thought for
someone who's a rabid neocon MM's name wouldn't fly, but soldiers' comments/letters should.
