Jailed Judith Miller's hubby off to cruise the Mediterranean
"One passenger with his mind soberly on home is the literary icon Jason Epstein. ... Ms. Miller would have been on the cruise had she not gone to jail."

His wife's in the slammer and he cruises the Med?

"We all serve our time in our own way," quipped Miller's attorney Robert Bennett.

Edited on Wed Jul-27-05 11:54 AM by TheDebbieDee
enjoying life just because Judith Miller decided to go to jail rather than rat out the treasonous bastard that outed Valerie Plame?

7. It's Valerie, not Judith
Ms. Plame's first name is Valerie.

4. so..
lots of people buy cruise tickets a year or more in advance... and there are usually (from what I've seen) no refunds.

Judy'll be right where he left her when he gets back.

6. ridiculous!! many many seniors buy cruising packages
and get ill or something comes up that they can't make the trip..they may not get their money back but they can postpone their trip for another date!

my husband and i have had to change our plans numerous times with cruise plans..we have never had a problem changing the dates..and we cruise alot!

total nonsense!!

people who cruise have children who get sick and they have to change their plans..this is nonsense.
he could have changed the date he went! for extenuating circumstances!

12. glad it worked out for you
I suppose it depends on the line and the tickets you've bought.

I've known people who change dates on plane tickets too... but I've never been able to afford the tickets that allow you to do that.

I would guess it's similar with cruise tickets; some people pay extra for the luxury of flexiblity.

14. Somehow, I do not see them as too poor to pay a penalty
to change the date, or put the trip on hold..:)

15. probably not
I'm sure between Judy's fellati... err... 'reporting' money and his editing money that they don't have to buy the cheap tickets....
though that doesn't mean they didn't anyways.

5. Let her rot while he cavorts!
She prostituted her journalism to the Bushistas. I don't see her as a martyr, I see her as preferring jail to being outed for what she knows.

9. Her husband is Jason Epstein???
Co-founder and former editor of the New York Review of Books? The NYRB has been more critical of media reporting of pre-war reporting, and of Miller/the NY Times in particular, than any other significant publication. Barbara Epstein, Jason Epstein's former wife, is now NYRB editor.

11. I don't mean to suggest, BTW ...
... that the NYRB coverage is an ex-wife's payback. Jason Epstein and Barbara Epstein are supposedly on good terms. I just found the whole connection remarkable, and I wasn't aware of it.

16. Have to agree with you, maybe ...
this is the straw that broke the camel's back where their marriage is concerned. Or, could be he's trying to distance himself from his wife's fallout.
