Please E-mail the DLC.
Edited on Wed Jul-27-05 01:18 PM by longship
Here's their e-mail comment form:
DLC Contact Form

Here's the e-mail I sent:
As a lifelong Democrat it saddens me greatly when I read rhetoric from the DLC that labels liberals as "extreme" or specific positions on issues as "extreme". It also makes me very, very angry. This kind of rhetoric is divisive, inflammatory, and damaging to the party as a whole.

Who the hell does the DLC think they are to label people of their own party as extreme?

It's not extreme to oppose an immoral and illegal preemptive war. It's not extreme to want healthcare for everybody. It's not extreme to oppose a party which is morally and economically driving this country off a cliff. It's not extreme to want accountability for an administration which has casually disregarded the rule of law, to say nothing of common decency. It's not extreme to want to keep jobs in this country.

Liberals and the DLC disagree on several issues. But we also agree on many more issues. We are all Democrats. DLC members have the right to put their issues on the table just like every other Democrat. But the DLC does not have the right to hurt the party.

I am asking the DLC to officially and publically apologize for their divisive and counter-productive rhetoric. I am asking the DLC to put the swords away and become good Democrats.

Finally, I support Dr. Dean even when he says things with which I do not agree. I might shoot him an e-mail informing him of this, but I do not air my disagreements with Dr. Dean on the national news.

I want Democrats to win in 2006 and 2008. I will support liberal candidates in the primaries. I will support any Democrat who wins the nomination, even if I disagree with him or her on some issues. That's called party loyalty, an attribute sadly lacking in the DLC recently.

The Democratic Party has room enough for the DLC, and for anybody else who believes in an open and honest government held accountable not to a president, not to a party, and certainly not to a minority faction, but to the people. I expect the DLC to act like good citizens of that party and not like arrogant thugs. Save the rhetoric for the real extremists, the neocon Republicans.

Very sincerely,

I also sent the letter to Hillary Clinton, Tom Vilsack, and Tom Carper.

2. I've written them and have never gotten a response
I guess it's because I'm not centrist enough.

5. thanks for the link to contact DLC...here's mine
(based on a posting by another DUer over here...http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4203672)

To the DLC: Progressives have taken back the Party. From the amount of money MoveOn and Howard Dean raised in 2004, to Dean's ascension to the chairmanship of the DNC, progressives are resurgent within the Democratic Party. Hillary won't win the Presidential nomination without us. You are the minority in the Democratic Party. Perhaps it's time you started acting like it. Here's a good start: From now on, how about asking people for their opinions before deciding your positions on issues?

The DLC loves to tell people it's a big-tent party. If that's true, where have you made room in your big-tent for progressives and liberals who stand for the time-tested and true values of the Democratic Party?

The DLC is desperate to prove its relevance. Here's an opportunity: stop trying to tell us what we should believe.

We've had enough of being told what to do by demonstrable losers with no goal outside of political expediency. You've had your chance to show us some results and you failed miserably for the past 8 years!

All this talk of making peace in the Party. We're here, we're listening, and we don't like what we're hearing. This is not a top-down party and it never will be.

It's time for the DLC to pipe down and start taking notes.

This Party is ours now, and you can't have it back.

Yours is a bit of a rant.
Good, they need and deserve it.

Thanks for the support on this.

7. Yes! Thank you! A productive way to deal with the DLC...
instead of endless bitching and threatening to vote for another party.

8. My goal in this letter.
I wanted to be as tough as I could while still maintaining a sense of decorum. I don't mind that they disagree with me, so I covered issues only in the broadest of sense. At the same time I wanted to communicate that their I considered their behavior to be reprehensible.
