Criticism of Fox News doesn't reflect reality
Johney R. Friar
Many of the letters to the editor in the Athens Banner-Herald that criticize President Bush or Republicans also take a swipe at Fox News. The implication is always that Fox is no more than a propaganda machine of the far right.
This absurd accusation amazes me and makes me wonder if the writers actually watch Fox News.
I can find no better example of why Fox News is gaining popularity than the July 25 newscasts on CNN and Fox. CNN reported the lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania crashed a Marine's funeral and gave out business cards, injecting politics in the solemn occasion.
Fox News with Brit Hume had the same report, but also reported the lieutenant governor's name and the fact she is a Democrat. I find it telling CNN omitted those two important facts.
Also, on the same newscast, CNN reported Supreme Court nominee John G. Roberts had an affiliation with the Federalist Society, a conservative legal group, in which he moderated several symposia. Fox News had the same report, but added that icons of the left also participated in symposia, including Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass. and current Supreme Court justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer.
I can't understand why liberals don't want both sides of an issue covered or the whole story broadcast. I watch Fox for those little tidbits the liberal media ignore or downplay. I acknowledge the "opinion" shows on Fox are more geared toward the conservative ideology, but at least they invite panelists from the left to participate in the discussions, and they are clearly identified as opinion shows.

Please note that Mr. Friar does not live in our wonderful Blue university town. He lives in a tiny little redneck town in a Red neighboring county called Barrow County. Barrow County just spent a huge amount of money defending a court case involving their illegal posting of the 10 Commandments in their courthouse. They had to take the plaque down.
Bwahahahahahah! All that money down the drain.
Fundy idiots. :grr:
