16. My experience, too
I stayed at home with my kids when they were little and never once did anyone disrespect me.

I don't think anyone frowns on stay at home moms. It is a myth that it perpetuated by the RW to make working women feel guilty. It's bullshit.

Each family must decide what works for them. Sometimes women want to work. Sometimes women have to work. Sometimes the dads stay home.

29. Absolutely.

Generally, in my experience (flamers, please note the disclaimer!), women with careers chose to stay at work, because of the respect and salary - both very positive feedback - they got made them better parents (in the sense of being personally fulfilled and passing on positive attitude, personal satisfaction and self-esteem to their kids).

Women with jobs (like me!) who saw a better opportunity to pour themselves into their kids, homes and communities than typing someone's meaningless memo, tried to make staying at home work, financially.

What Santorum and others like him don't take into account, is that stay-at-home moms are often the ones who volunteer at churches, in schools, scout troops, community centers, youth sports leagues, and such. These positions are very fulfilling for women (or sah Dads, too) - so they help them become better parents too.
HOWEVER - I go to board meetings several evenings a month. I am on the computer typing letters, sending emails, on the phone coordinating events - these positions take almost as much time away from my family as a full-time job would. No joke.

Where would their precious religious organizations be without SAHM volunteers to run the programs? Should they be shut down to keep those moms at home with their kids? Hmmmm????

32. I don't know about you
but the Reagan years and his ruthless economic attack on the middle class in this country effectively made staying at home for EITHER parent impossible for people at my income level.

39. Exactly!
What about the school PTA meetings and things like that? When I was in high school I was in the band and we always had a marching band festival where people would come and compete and guess who helped us run the stands and stuff? Majority were women! Sure some men helped but they mostly did the heavier stuff and all that. And at football games the mom's also mostly did things as well. So I guess Santorum doesn't want me as a woman to do anything except stay home, have babies, sit on my ass all day and watch my soaps and clean house and cook him dinner and bring it to him while he sits on his ass and doesn't do shit. He can go and Cheney himself.

43. That's right - it is always the Moms, taking time away from
their families to help out to oil that machinery that is a community. They are not showing Johnny flashcards and reading the bible with Susan 24/7. They are leaving kids #2 and 3 with a sitter/neighbor/older sibling so they can volunteer for child #1.

46. Idiots need to be called on this rhetoric
There is nothing "selfish" about wanting to get well. There is nothing selfish about stem cell research since it will benefit conservatives as much as liberals - unless the cons refuse to take advantage of any advances to medicine made by stem cell research. Tell me how many KKK Jew hating white supremists haven't had a polio vaccine. Discovered by a Jew so if they were really true to their beliefs they would pass on that.

These people are reactionary wackos. They can't see beyond their own nose. I would put money on it if Sanitorium's grandma had Parkinson's and stem cell research provided a cure he would be first in line to make sure she got it.

27. WHY DON'T THEY MENTION SEGREGATED SCHOOLS 50 YEARS AGO?
Those "oh it was so great fifty years ago" jerks forget about these charming milestones of yore:

1.women couldn't get a real job or go to college

2.women had to stay married to abusive spouses because they could not survive otherwise. (divorce rates were lower - no you know why!)

3. Schools were segregated.

4. People of different races had to drink out of separate water fountains.

The list goes on and on of those charming times. You know that jerks like Santorum really want it like that. I hate him.

10. "Why don't 'they' accept the responsibility of staying home with the kids"
Gee Ricky & Chris...Could it be that without TWO parents working, MOST families would never own a house for that family? or that they could have a rough time feeding them?

and there are probably LOTS of mothers out there who would love to stay home, but for the fact that Dad bailed on them for a younger 'chickie'..

What a fucking idiot.Go over to Iraq if its so damn easy.Several hundred billion on an unecessary war not heavy lifting? 1700+ dead not heavy lifting? (That quote should be passed around)

He complains about women who take jobs but doesnt mention that the tax cuts for the rich, the tax breaks for corporations, the pharmaceutical companies artificially inflating health care costs give them no other option but to work in most cases.

He said the middle class was being overtaxed which is why alot of women cant choose whether or not to stay home.He is right about that.He and his friends made sure of it,now this scumbag writes a book that paints a broad brush about working mothers neglegting their kids.Fucking evil man.

1. If marriage is to be revered, why did you insert yourself in Michael and Terri Schiavo's marriage and why do you continue to defend that position?

2. If you believe in eliminating social programs, shouldn't you use the revenues from this book to pay back your debt to the taxpayers of Pennsylvania for your home schooling debacle? After all, you didn't have a legal address in the state of Pennsylvania while you sucked more than 200K from your constituents.
