APA Ignored Evidence that Homosexual Behaviour is Part of Psychiatric Disorder Says Noted Psychiatirst

http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2005/jul/05072502.html

"In an interview with the Rome-based Zenit news service, Dr. Rick Fitzgibbons a psychiatrist and member of the Catholic Medical Association, said that the American Psychiatric Association (APA) has ignored evidence that homosexual behaviour is a manifestation of a psychiatric disorder. In their recent call for the legalization of homosexual marriage, the APA has revealed a political bias that is of no service to homosexuals, said Fitzgibbons the primary author of the Catholic Medical Association's document 'Homosexuality and Hope.'

Fitzgibbons, the co-author of a book on forgiveness published by the APA, said the APA has also chosen to ignore the potential impact on children in those "marriages." It is being increasingly proven that children have a critical psychological need for a stable family life with a mother and a father, which the homosexual lifestyle cannot provide.

At the APA's most recent convention in Atlanta, the 250 delegates passed a resolution stating, "In the interests of maintaining and promoting mental health, the APA supports the legal recognition of same-sex civil marriage with all rights, benefits and responsibilities conferred by civil marriage, and opposes restrictions to those same rights, benefits and responsibilities."

Fitzgibbons lists a host of psychological difficulties faced by those who accept a 'homosexual orientation' as normal. He said, "These include major depression, suicidal ideation and attempts, anxiety disorders, substance abuse, conduct disorder, low self-esteem in males and sexual promiscuity with an inability to maintain committed relationships."

..."

I'm not sure what entails the particular psychiatric disorder that gives one the label "Noted Psychiatrist," but it must be a harrowing, debilitating disorder to live with.

WTF!?

2. Assertions only.
Assertions without corroborating evidence mean nothing. This guy is just trying to bolster the conservative position with his bluster.

Trying to show that being gay is something you can cure like having a mental disease. :eyes: These people just are lame. Why don't they try curing cancer or something else?

4. I imagine some black folks in Jim Crow days suffered some of those same
symptoms. Would this quack think blackness is a psychological disorder too?

23. No shit. Oh, but a tendency toward depression has *nothing* to do with
being reminded that you're a second-class citizen at best, some peoples' idea of the devil at worst. Fuckheads.

8. They WANT us to be "sick"
so they can "Cure" us. This is what they want to do: get homosexuality declared a disorder again, so they can enforce the type of treatment that Zach kid got from his parents.

Literally all of the "psychological difficulties" listed there are brought on by the people who hate and beat and kill us. This does not ever enter their minds, as that would make them wrong.

They want to lock us up. Permenantly. They will use any pretext they think they can use to do so.

They will DIE if they try, and I do mean that.

11. Read my other post. That will NOT happen again,
Edited on Thu Jul-28-05 11:26 PM by kgfnally
and if they make the attempt, there will be blood on my doorstep- their blood- and their heads will lie strewn in the aisles of their churches.

(edit: yes, that's grotesque. It's meant to be. It is meant as a warning, and a promise, to those reading this thread and cheering this shit on. THIS TREATMENT WILL END, and if blood must be spilled to end it, I volunteer to help that happen.)

I WILL NOT PLAY. Nicely or otherwise. This is for keeps this time.

17. the military-prison-industrial complex is very extensive
It takes a lot of money to build things like howitzers, aircraft carriers, F-16's, Chinook and Apache helicopters, miniguns, and so on. Rex 84 is also intended to have capacities to "detain" many millions of Americans. The last estimates were 20 million, but they are old. The WTO protests and the 2004 RNC Convention demonstrate manpower and the use, willingness to use, scope, and sizes of the Rex 84 camps. Boykin is also reputed to be heading up new death squads.

12. Males of the world are violence prone
90% of the prison population is comprised of men. They are responsible for most murder, rape, fraud, ....

So the males should be "converted" into females.

Dr. Rick Fitzgibbons, are you ready to convert?

20. I've used the same point before when anti-gay "stats" are cited
they want to reinstate sodomy laws so how about laws restricting males? Makes about as much sense...

14. You say what I did.
Recriminalize me and my life, and those who try to actually do something about that to my detriment will simply be killed.

THAT'S what you say. You will arrest me for being gay at peril to your life.

16. I feel bad for the letters CMA.
Apparently they stand for Catholic Medical Association or Country Music Association or the Christian Motorcyclists Association.

Oh those poor letters. They just can't win!

19. Those psychological difficulties he mentions do fit,
but not by those who DO accept their 'homosexual orientation' as normal. That would be those who don't accept their orientation, acting on it or not.
Depression, suicidal ideation and attempts, anxiety, substance abuse, low self-esteem and so on do come when we hate part of who we are or how we fit, not limited to our sexuality.
If he was hearing the confession of gays with those issues, he didn't have a sampling of gays who accepted themselves as normal. he had those who saw themselves as deviant or sinful and torn against themselves. He is confusing doing it and justifying it with honestly accepting it.

I wonder if he knows he is wrong or if he has fooled himself as well.

21. Single moms.
Single moms. Single dads. Widowed, divorced, unmarried. I have seen single parents raise great kids. And I have seen married-for-life mom-n-dads raise utter sociopaths.

So fuck this mom-n-dad shit. It is the weakest, lamest argument against gay parents. Nobody raises kids in a vacuum. Most everybody has opposite-sex role models - grandparents, aunts and uncles, family friends - to help a child develop his/her identity.

If the Church and the Right (but I repeat myself) are serious about kids needing a mother and a father, drop all this shit about gay marriage and OUTLAW DIVORCE.

Ha. Yeah. Do it. Because I'd love to see a real pitchforks-and-torches-style mob uprising in my lifetime.

22. You believe in gnomes, fairies and a Sky Daddy and you call people crazy?
How bent are YOU?

Ooga-booga-booga.

Since you're a good Catholic, you dismiss all sex as the Devil's whoop-dee-do; what claim to sanity have you? If it wasn't for the comfort of millions of like-minded, deluded clucks, you'd be foaming at the mouth and biting mailcarriers on the leg.
