I get offended when neocons are referred to as "conservatives."
True conservatives believe in conserving things. Conserving energy, conserving money, conserving lives, conserving resources, conserving wildlife, conserving knowledge, conserving peace and conserving our nation's founding ideals.

If you can name one thing that this administration conserves, I'll give you a cookie.

I call myself a "conservative" by the strict definition of the word. Neocons are no such thing.

1. I actually always make the distinction.
Because while I am liberal about a lot of issues, there are also a few issues I am conservative about. Generally, I'm to the left, but not 100% of the time (which I think is normal for any independant human being). The fact is that if these fake conservatives (especially the elected officials, who damn well ought to know better) cared more about their values than having "their guy" win, they would be raging against Bush.

18. I don't, and not because I am not conservative on some issues like
paygo. I would have conservative have the same connotation as liberal. You give people a pass because you want to be "nice." The Conservatives are selling this country down the river, and I won't find another term to give them a free pass. "Oh, it's not me, it's the NeoCons." Conservatives are the NeoCons until they stand up.

6. Yes, they are.

The demonization of the word "conservative" is setting us back as a movement. Lots of people (myself included) identify with that word in some respects.

Try to get your eyes and ears outside the bubble from time to time.

I guess most of them are dumb as a bag of hammers.

7. I'm with you Gator!
The admin isn't conservative, it's just a wreck.

Heavy deficit spending, growth in government, intrusion into private lives, more government power over civil rights - that ain't conservative!

8. Oh, thank the Lord. Someone who kind of understands.
I refuse to dignify people who vote for or behave like neocons because they hate gay people and want to restrict the personal, private medical decisions of women as "conservatives." They're bigots, misogynists, people who don't understand that religion does NOT belong anywhere near government and sometimes racists. They give true conservatives a bad name. They digust me.

10.  It's just a label which simpletons apply to their foreheads,
giving them an excuse never to think for themselves.

Liberalism is relying on one's own intellect.

Conservatism is rejecting one's own intellect.

16. I'm A Fiscal Conservative...
I always love throwing that one around at Repugnicans...cause I favor low risk investments and efficient spending...making every penny accountable. You don't spend what you don't have...and you don't risk if you can't afford to loose the whole thing.

In my faith, I'm Conservative as well...that's the branch of Judiasm I grew up in and am most comfortable with. They're conserving the traditions.

Labels can be tossed around...as I'll laugh at some Repugnican who blows a lot of money on a toy or failed venture as being "liberal" with his (or daddy's) money.

One can be conservative (the literal definition) without being a CONservative (the political definition), just as much as I identify with liberal causes, but I consider myself a Progressive, not a true liberal.

Cheers...

19. Isn't this the damned truth! They are right-wing radicals and extremists..
Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 04:39 PM by KrazyKat
They should not be allowed to get away with the conservative label. Nothing about them is conservative.

Traditionally, a conservative believed in a strict interpretation of the constitution, smaller government, fiscal responsibility and belt-tightening, states' rights, lessening the imfluence of government on the individual, and a general avoidance of nation-building abroad.

The dipshit * administration has spit upon every one of these old-school ideals. They are NOT conservative in any sense of the term. It is time to demonize the term "conservative" in the same way Newt & Co. did to the term "liberal."

Do not let them slide by with the polite moniker of "conservative," for that is an untruth. Call them "right wing radicals" or "right-wing extremists" in your every conversation, letter and e-mail. :grr:
