there are many healthy sperm released at the time of fertilization, once a fertilized egg attaches itself to the womb, the mother's body goes into defense mode to attack all others, there is no "sanctity of life"

There are some pretty funky and crazy chapters and verses in Ye Olde Testament which describes what happens when your sperm hits the ground. A blastocyst is an EIGHT-CELLED ball. The early stages of being a blastocyst, anyway. And that's what most of these frozen blastocysts are, eight cells.

Also, many of the frozen ones are of medium to low quality and probably would not form to the point of being born even if transferred to a uterus. Couples who do IVF have the most high-quality blastocysts transferred and the medium to low quality ones are not used, but frozen (or, in rare cases, they don't even bother to freeze the most low quality ones).

On a more serious note, where these people are wrong is this: an eight-celled blastocyst has the POTENTIAL to become a human life. But it's quite a stretch to look at that picture and call that a human being. It's not. It has the potential, given a hospitable and compatible uterine atmosphere and given that the genetic encoding is compatible with continued development, given that a million other things don't go wrong, etc etc.

But what they are freaking out about are eight-celled balls.

If you take a microscope to look close at the stem cells they are little people running around in there. They may even wave to you if you look close :P
