Girly-Men Like War, SUV's
http://www.livescience.com/humanbiology/050802_masculinity.html

"Men whose masculinity is challenged become more inclined to support war or buy an SUV, a new study finds."

So if we stroke their....egos and tell them they are ever so strong, they will cut this shit out?

Hummer not big enough for you? The NaviStar CXT

Topping on at over 4 1/2 feet longer than the Hummer H2, say hello to the new truck all the soccer moms will be driving their kids around in next year: the NaviStar CXT. This monster of a truck won’t overcompensate for any, um, shortcomings, or alleviate any of your eco-guilt, but at a price of $115,000 it’ll definitely leave your wallet feeling a lot lighter. Not sure if this true, but at the Earth First meeting we went to the other day they told us that the CXT runs on the blood of baby harp seals and even then only gets 15 feet to the gallon.

Truck maker will sell giant pickup
Navistar starts marketing cement mixer-based truck that dwarfs the Hummer and the F-350.
September 13, 2004: 3:07 PM EDT
By Chris Isidore, CNN/Money senior writer

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - For the driver looking for more in a pickup -- one that dwarfs the Hummer and the Ford F-350 -- Navistar has just the ride for you.

<snip>

At 258 inches, or 21-1/2 feet long, the CXT is about 4-1/2 feet longer than the new Hummer H2 pickup, and about 2 inches longer than the F-350 Crew Cab.

But the way it really towers over what's on the road now is in height. At 108 inches, or 9 feet, the CXT stands only a foot below a basketball rim and more than two feet above the Hummer or the F-350.

<snip>

Buyers will also have to have a fair amount of money to fill it up -- it's projected to get between 6 and 10 miles per gallon of diesel fuel.

6. There is a radio show here in Albuquerque...
called the Mike Villanucci Show (sp?). I think its Mike. Anyways, this right winger had callers call up to talk about their "piece". All of a sudden all these whackos called in talking about their guns, and these guys were into it! It sounded like gay porn (assuming, never listened to gay porn, only seen it*) Finally, someone had the sense to call up and say "all you guys talking about your pieces is sounding really gay". LMAO! I bet SUV ownership went through the roof!

*I used to go to gay bars cause they had 10 cent beer, and they had gay porn everywhere but the music drowned out the sounds.

16. I'm in ABQ, too
I haven't heard that show before, but I know the type.

I've got a BIL who's a complete psycho -- a gun nut with serious gender issues. A right-wing anarchist, if you will.

He drives a purple Ford Escort (no shit).

I was hesitant to buy an SUV, but I'm in Angel Fire a lot, all year round. I spent last weekend driving all over forest roads, so I'm glad I have it.

17. If you live in Angel Fire, Sandia, or around the Gila
it would make sense, especially in winter when you have to get wood, food, tools, etc. and haul up to your house with chains on your tires. I am city boy, so I stay in, and I don't have an SUV. I have my Toyota Camry! :)

24. When I lived in Alb. we would go to
'The Ranch' or 'Foxes, Booze and Cruise'. Those are the only gay bars I knew of back then.

I used to work at Chelseas Street Pub, I don't think it was a gay bar back then (early 80's) .

I don't support the war at all, and I drive an SUV.

Some people actually live in the mountains and need one, you know.

15. Sorry, I question the study's validity
From what little we know: "Cornell University researcher Robb Willer used a survey to sample undergraduates. Participants were randomly assigned feedback that indicated their responses were either masculine of feminine."

If a straight guy is told he is being feminine, the natural reaction is to act for masculine (which includes SUVs, war, and being anti-gay). Like many studies, this one doesn't appear to reveal anything that isn't already common sense.

The problem is that SUVs and war are associated with masculinity.

23. Ya, and I don't question the fact either, just the study.
The problem is the study doesn't take into account real life situations. I think the results would probably be the same in real life, but would like to see it proven and then shoved in the RW's faces over and over again.

25. Last month
I actually saw some idiot driving an old surplus troop transporter with thick black smoke coming out the exhausts in camouflage paint. The thing was freaking huge and it was just him in the truck.

Of course the driver had shirt off and was wearing a trucker hat.Unreal.

28. we just rented an SUV
My husband inadvertently rented one. He asked for a car but when we got to the rental place, there was no car. They then informed him an error had been made and the only thing left was this big black SUV. We howled with laughter because that's the one that I always make the comments about when we're on the road: the big black Expeditions, etc. Man, do I hate those things.

So since that was all there was and he needed the vehicle to go on his business trip, he took it. As he climbed up in the cab and we said goodbye, he looked down at me sitting in our station wagon and said, "I'm coming back Friday...with an ATTITUDE."
