What They Really Think Of Us
I just had a very heated conversation with a Republican friend of mine. Yes, we are friends, and get along just fine when we don't talk politics (I'm way too angry to get into what we discussed). However, I did want to share one thought with everyone. From the mouth of a Republican:

"We know Democrats eat their young, we watch it happen. They can't unify and get behind anything. At least the Republicans, right or wrong, stick together like glue. That's why they always have the upper hand."

This is something we need to remember over the next year or so - time to prove them wrong.

1. Was it Will Rogers who said
"I don't belong to any organized political party - I'm a Democrat."

7. Yes, that was Will Rogers,
the Oklahoma cowboy who was actually an Indian, and who nearly single-handedly got FDR elected. God, we need someone like him now.

2. We can't prove them wrong
cause its true.
The GOP is a lock step machine.

But we can still beat them. We just need to wait for the primary to be decided.

6. I'm sorry
I don't care what Repugs think of us.

Further, they're fascists, pure and simple. And the discipline they impose on themselves and one another routinely, 24/7, is wrong for them, wrong for the country. It's a perversion of representative democracy. So even if I DID care what Repugs think of us, it wouldn't matter.

Even so, welcome to DU! ;-)

8. I know several Republicans
None of them are facists. You need to grow up and stop the name calling and hyperbole. Disgusting.

12. Response, you're new
This is DU, where the sludgery of the Republican party over the last few years has been WELL documented. While I realize that not all Republicans are scum, there is a GIGANTIC credibilty gap for those who will defend them without regard to their attacks on American values.

So, have fun here if you can... but expect attacks on Republicans.

14. She is referring to the party and the leadership of the GOP

The Bush family and many of the other arch conservatives have old fascist's ties, and while their stated political agenda isn't blatantly fascist, the effects of their policies would fit snugly with any fascist agenda. As you may know fascism is more then a dirty word, it is a legitimate description of anyone who's ideology if far enough to the right. While I don't personally believe that all rank and file members of the republican party are fascist they are culpable, through their ignorance, for supporting fascist.

10. It is true
Your friend is likely a political blackhole, absorbing otherwise valuable energy.

I believe the Dems don't take that position because principles, fairness and consistency are often the things they care most about(at least I'd like to believe that is true). Conservative Republicans on the other hand don't give shit about these things especially if they get in the way of their agenda$.

11. He's right, but I have hope!!!!
That someday those who would choose to divide us over a Ralph Nader vote will FINALLY realize that this is about saving our country from the Bush administration. Politics be damned, if they feel there is a problem with Dems, push it after the upcoming elections in 2004.

PLEASE!

15. Its part of our nature
Its inherant in the thought process. We defend the right of people to think for themselves. We can't get upset when our own numbers go and do just that. Look, we are a herd of cats. We are chaos. But do some reading up on chaos and you will find that it is not what you think it is. Chaos is just order that is too complex to be readily observed.

We are part of a larger social movement then the rights limited desire for conformity. The right cannot win. Occaisionally individuals will gather together and comiserate about the lack of conformity with their particular views. But as they gain power what happens is that the variations within their own ranks eventually turns on them and the direction becomes increasingly fractured until the conformity is broken.
