Bush team views democratic field as "unusually weak.."
Edited on Sun Sep-28-03 09:20 PM by wyldwolf
"Each of them has relative strengths and weaknesses, but happily for us, in each case the relative weaknesses outweigh the relative strengths," Ed Gillespie, chairman of the Republican National Committee, tells the TIMES.

...they say, staring up from a 49% approval rating and frantically spinning the reasons why two of these weak dems are beating bush for the presidecny in the polls.

1. Good, I hope they keep thinking that.
It is a good thing when your enemy underestimates you. Any one of our ten could out debate shrub. Hell, even the famous ham sandwich could.

8. That's what scares me....
What the utterly desperate could do. They can't let the truth come out, which would happen if a Democrat gets elected. Why so you think that the changed the laws on prez papers? Because the reins were in pappy's hands for years. The rot can't be exposed. The more likely that they face defeat, the more likely that they will do....? The mind boggles.

3. .....
What polls? I thought I saw Bush ahead of Clark, who was the best in the Dem field, by a decent amount?

"Most recent poll show Clark and Kerry beating Bush, Dean and Gep tied"

I've not seen anything like it yet.

Thanks!

12. Gallup/CNN has Clark beating Bush by 3 points
and Kerry also in front. Other polls have Clark and Kerry trailing Bush by anywhere from 4 to 8 points. See http://www.pollingreport.com

BTW, I agree that Gillespie is whistling out his you-know-what. If he wants to publicly underestimate our candidates, fine. It's nothing more than false Rovian bravado. Remember in 2000, when Rove had Bush campaigning in Calif., a state he had no chance of winning, to create an aura of inevitability about Bush's "victory"? It was all a stunt to depress Dem turnout, and it failed.

6. what the heck do you think he's going to say?
"Our internal polling shows us losing in a landslide and instead of fighting for Minnesota and New York, we'll be fighting to hang on to Oklahoma."

Although this may be true, they're not going to fuckign SAY that.... Republicans are dumb, but not that dumb.

7. Reminder of why we need to stick together.
I always tell my two children that they will have to fight the world, so why fight with each other. If we don't stand together, we are destined to fall apart. Now, can't we all just get along?

16. Yeah, Ed, and THEN what did you dream?
Hell, were it not for racism, Al Sharpton could beat Bush (unless he recovers somehow between now and then). Carol Mosely-Braun too.

17. lets not get cocky ourselves folks
you need to remember a couple things, its normal for rating to droop at this point in the process and Bush has done virtually nothing to make any difference while our guys have been working at it as hard as they can. Things can change once the GOP campaign machinery actually gets fired up. It always does that too.

Its a long road and we are not far along yet. Its continued hard work that will wipe a smile off Rove's face.

21. By "unusually weak" he means
that although every single one of the Dem candidates is a stronger and more viable candidate than Bush, they don't feel that any of them would stand up to say a plane crash or a mysterious, lone assasin....
