Help Cindy Sheehan! I just got off the phone with Leon Smith
from the Iconoclast and Hadi Jawad, the director of 'Peace House' who is my contact closest to the scene.

Hadi told me that they were not fully prepared for an extended stay and that the situation is 'fluid'... meaning they aren't sure what to expect.

He also said that Cindy is determined to speak to Mr. Bush. And that she is a very smart woman.

I'm calling him back in less than an hour.

If anyone want to help, say so and we may be able to get her some of what she needs.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT TO HELP!

Keep this kicked too!

90. Keep in mind, don't just support Cindy. Support our VETS FOR PEACE!
Veterans for Peace paid for Cindy's trip to Dallas.

Vets for Peace need all our support as well.

6. I'll be calling him back to find out what they may need...
If I can get enough people together to be able to give him some assistance we could help her get some real attention.

Right now the Iconoclast thinks that the Sherriff's Dept. might not let them stay the night - both because of 'security' and the potential dangers of Rattlers, Coyotes and opposums.

Thank you.

Go tell people to check in.

audience with King George. They are a couple of miles away and on the side of the road. Peace group is talking with her trying to persuade her to make the house her base rather than the tent on the side of the road.

All is well. Some of the Vets have left headed back to their big end tonight in Dallas. Rest assured all though that Cindy won't be left alone.

In another thread someone talked about helping her on a rotation type basis for as long as it takes. It may be time to consider something like it.

(I volunteer for this next week)

from DK http://www.dailykos.com/hotlist/add/2005/8/6/95956/25883/displaystory//

I am in touch with Celeste Zappala..

....a GSFP member who is in touch with the folks down there and has asked me to post this here:

2:51 PM Central Time

I just spoke to Amy. They got up there and protested, as reported on the Texas Iconoclast site you gave us, Christine.

The press was there, but after a while, left. Some protestors (including Amy) went to the cars to get water, lawn chairs, et cetera. It's a hundred degrees out there.

Cindy, Dede, and others did not go to the cars. Amy & others were to take the water back up to them, but the cops wouldn't let them. That's uppdated in the next paragraph.

So: as of now, Cindy & Dede, and other protestors, were out in the hot sun and cut off from water, but they are moving to an area with some shade trees, and water is being allowed in to them. Cindy has no plan to leave.

33. I just sent this email to the AP because they decided to
marginalize and 'label' her as merely 'angry' without finding out why

--------

Deb Reichman called her "angry" in a way that marginalized the anger of countless families across the United States. To say that she was just "angry" for the loss of her only child is to truly avoid the question of why is she angry, and why are countless others angry.

You're damn right she's angry, but unless Deb Reichman explores the reasoning for this anger, she does Cindy Sheehan and everyone that has protested this bullsh*t war from day one a disservice.

I'd appreciate it if from now on the Associated Press would take a less partisan approach to reporting. You don't get your paychecks from the United States Government, you don't owe them any favors. You do however owe us reporting that digs in to a story. Instead of simply labelling a mother of a fallen son "Angry" why not investigate the Downing Street Memos, or look at how the White House tried to discredit the source of news it didn't want to hear regarding Iraq trying to buy Uranium from Nigeria.

Connect the dots, follow the money. This "administration" has done as absolutetly horrific job of covering its tracks, yet the press has done an even worse job following them.

We can help!

I just spoke with John Wolf of the Peace House and he gave me some info;

Crawford Peace House 9142 5th Street Crawford, Tx. 76638-3037

P.O. Box 710218 Dallas, Tx. 75371-0218

He said you can send help for Cindy there.

He also gave me account info (after which I made sure he took my name and info down) So that I can facilitate any direct donations anyone might want to make.

I WILL NOT take donations to send to them until an ADMIN gives a go ahead. And I will NOT give the info out that he gave me...

So help me get ahold of Skinner or someone!

Thanks!

there will of course be needs (water, food, etc)...

I'll help in whatever way I can and have bookmarked this thread.

63. I think they've got the equipment, just not the permission
The way I understand it, the police/Sheriff won't let Cindy pitch a tent near Junior's 'ranch' road, but that she won't leave where she is. I think her fellow marchers are trying to convince her to make the Peace House her base and go out to the ranch by day. I don't know if that'll convince her, though. If she can get supplies through, maybe she'll stay outside, if not.... I really hope she gets back to town.

60. Reuters has picked up this story.
Radio News America is keeping a running front page account of all stories related to this protest.

http://www.radionewsamerica.com/

I'd just like to say that this is not just tooting my own horn here, I have something at stake too. I am also a disabled vet and my son just completed his first week of Marine bootcamp, and I did everything I could to stop him from going.

I am totally against this war. Radio News America is a grassroots effort of which I am proudly a founding member (along with KyndCulture and a few others). If you would like to submit news items or well-written essays and opinion pieces, we'd like to see them. Details for submission are on our site.

Thanks for reading.

66. Local action - Visit your local Republican congressperson's office
Lots of us can't make it to Crawford, but we can lend our support and make this a national action. Let's visit our local Republican Congressperson's office and deliver a copy of Cindy's message:

"1) We want our loved ones' sacrifices to be honored by bringing our nation's sons and daughters home from the travesty that is Iraq IMMEDIATELY, since this war is based on horrendous lies and deceptions. Just because our children are dead, why would we want any more families to suffer the same pain and devastation that we are?

2) We would like for him to explain this "noble cause" to us and ask him why Jenna and Barbara are not in harm's way, if the cause is so noble.

3) If George is not ready to send the twins, then he should bring our troops home immediately. We will demand a speedy withdrawal. "

Here's a site with congressional contact info:
http://www.congress.org/congressorg/directory/congdir.t...

I am too disabled to make it to Crawford, but I want to support Cindy Sheehan and amplify her message.

What do you think? We can make a new thread if this generates interest.

77. It wasn't a lot of money
but I kicked a couple of bucks to the Gold Star Families for Peace

they accept money through paypal and I figure since I can't be there in Crawford today at least I could show my support if you want a link to page here it is

http://www.gsfp.org/

Donations link at top right hand corner

These people have lost so much and yet they have the courage to stand out in the heat and call that pretender to the throne on his lies and deception. Every time I hear Lila Lipscomb or Cindy Sheehan speak I cry for their pain and I hope they know how much we support them.

I have been so fortunate that I haven't lost anyone in Iraq but these people are living proof that we can't give up hope to bring our troops home.

79. I am not trying to break any rules
as I checked the long version rules of DU before I posted it. I was simply posting a link to a site that accepts donations. This is my opinion of my experience with that site and no more. I do not represent any of the organizations. That is why I linked directly to the front page so that the reader can decide for themselves.

I know they can use money for tomorrow, as John said, they have 'a little food' at the house... so I don't think anyone's going to die.

But I could E-transfer something to them by morning (EST) if we get the go ahead tonight.

I'm retiring for now, I'll check mail later to see if they got back to me.

If so, I'll give a heads up.

It's good to see that people really care about justice in a world like this.

Peace,

-Dr. E

{oe} - New Update; I just got off the phone with Hadi of the Peace House. He said that Cindy is now inside and resting after a long day. He said that she has mild symptoms of heat stroke/exposure, but nothing to be concerned about.

He told me to thank everyone at DU for being so thoughtful.

You guys are great!

banquet and he asked me to share with everyone the best way to help will be on Monday when they get the PayPal account set up at www.crawfordpeacehouse.org

Patience everyone, patience. Breath deep.

It's working out and Cindy is okay and is being well cared for.

Hadi was overwhelmed by the response today. Thank you all!!

I took some time off to putter around the house for the week, but this is much more important.

I could be there in two days (I have family in Albuquerque and love road trips).

I'm happy to contribute too, but if I could be of help onsite, let me know.

Thanks. MKJ

100. If you type 'kick' in the subject or message field...
It pops the thread up to the top of the forum where it may get more attention...

Generally this is something you would want to do for a topic you believe is either important, time critical, or very entertaining.

This thread is somewhat important, but as of now - no longer time critical.

It is still important to help Cindy out as she is bringing attention to the fact that Bush had pre-planned the Iraq invasion long before 2003.

If this is a curious issue for you, then google, "PNAC" and "office of special plans".
These simple and illuminating revelations are well know by those fighting to bring the truth to the rest of America and are not even trying to conceal this info.

and Welcome to DU!
