Tim the Democrat from 1995 is bewildered and cannot recognised his own country! Its like the alternate evil Star Trek bizzarro world! How could any president screw EVERYTHING UP SO QUICKLY?

Remember the 90's wow I miss 1995!

REMEMBER WHEN BOB DOLE WAS OUR ONLY WORRY!?

1. Yeah, I know what Tim is going through, but
I'm kicking myself for not recognizing how evil the Repukes were even back then.

I feel like a complete idiot that I didn't see what was coming, but then again I didn't have a computer and the Internet was a complete mystery...

2. I keep thinking of the Saturday Night Live skit
during the 2000 re-count when they looked in to the future of a Gore presidency versus a Bush presidency. They found bush cowering under the desk with flames in the background saying something like "I broke the country". Hmmmmmm.

3. Things were going downhill rapidly then
Edited on Sat Aug-06-05 06:19 PM by kenny blankenship
As I was about to post in the Dukes Of Hazzard WTF thread, 1994-5 was the year I decided "it CAN SO always get worse". I stopped having arguments with my brother about the supposed inevitability that the country would swing back from deepening GOP infection. That pendulum swinging stuff is bullshit but you hear it still today, when One Party Rule is becoming as plain as the nose on your face.
Newt Gingrich had just executed the Contract on America --remember that? THe US House of Representatives switched hands.
Tim McVeigh was blowing the Federal Gummint up and Newt was shuttin' it down...
Ken Starr was trying to lynch a democratically elected President...
Bob Dole was still saying things like Clinton wasn't really President of the United States. Jesse Helms was still saying things like Bill Clinton might be killed by his own military...
Maniacs with Ak-47s or private planes were trying to take Clinton out it seemed about once a month...

Things were NOT all groovy back then. It's worse now and that's for sure, but we didn't descend into this Fascist psychosis overnight.

4. Democracies are inevitably volatile
That's the beauty and the danger of them. While I feel the pendelum theory is a bit off, I don't it follows a regular schedule, the direction of the country can shift, just like that. You know, to be honest though, I think to country is shifting left as a whole, I think the poll numbers show it, I think the Hackett race helped illustrate it too. But I think we need to let the country shift at it's own speed and not try to force it too much...just be there, to help guide the general populace back to a healthy mistrust of the powers that be.

6. Think what clinton was dealt and what world he worked to create with it.
And then what W was dealt and what world he and his have created with it.

7. We've secretly replaced the American democracy with the Fourth Reich.
Let's see if US citizens notice.
